Just started calling some shops in NY that had received favorable mention in previous posts here on THR.

If there are any NY shops that you think offer good selection, prices, service, etc, I'd like to hear about them.

Thanks.

Finger Lakes Area

I patronize the following establishments:

R & B Firearms in Groton, NY (good for FFL transfers)
Harry Guns in Willet, NY (very nice guy, great little shop tucked away)
Avon Guns & Hunting Supply in Avon, NY (best selection so far I've seen)

Let me second Avon guns. Great selection and prices. Good folks who work there too. Another is Schulties sporting goods in Arkport: 607-295-7485. They have a great selection and a nice shop in an out of the way little town. Very knowledgable folks workign there too. They are my first shop always. There's also Southern Tier Arms, in Angelica NY: 585-466-7814. He has a great shop there too. It's a little bit of a travel to get to, but he has great prices and a great selection. He'll usually wheel and deal with ya too. Lots of little shops out here to find! :)

Maybe the memory is the first thing to go...

I can't remember the name of the shop or the suburb, but there was a huge place with adjacent rifle range south of Rochester NY, not too far from from I90.

Bought a used Remington 722 in .222 there around 1969 (first of many). If anybody comes up with a name and they're still in business, I'll probably make a pilgrimage. Best selection of cherry used guns I've ever seen.

More places to visit....

Apple Town Guns in Williamson - Sodus, NY
--decent selection, great prices, a hubby-wifey enterprise.

Not a gun shop, but Lou Alessi's holster shop in North Tonawanda, NY is the Mecca for anyone who has a jones for fine gunleather. I was lucky enough to get a tour of the facility and spend about 30 minutes talking with the legend and seeing his "war chest." He is truly a world-class artisan and gentleman.

Bell Charter Oak Holsters is in Gilbertsville, NY. I'd love to have the opportunity to chat with that fine gentleman one day as well.

Dick, you might look up R.M. Vivas who posts on the S&W Forum. He just opened up a shop north of NYC. He sort of specializes in old NYPD guns and has an email list of new guns that come in.
