Sorry. I could not find a thing to like. I had been wanting to try one of these little plinking pistols. My example was a anodized black 6.5" single action with nasty plywood looking laminated grips. The grips had a greenish hue to them and really looked like they used to be screwed down on somebodys' deck. The hammer was a funky MIM scooped out part. Odd for a single action. This pistol was a 22/22 WMR version. I began the examination visually. I was disappointed. Nothing classy. It is cheap. OK. I checked it for function and dry fired it 6 times. OK, it indexed and rotated/locked up well. I chose to try the 22 cylinder first. I loaded up and aimed, pulled the trigger, CLICK! Safety works! Yes, this single action pistol has a funky frame mounted hammer block manual safety. It worked until it fell out. I fired a cylinder of CCI Mini-Mags and this pistol was accurate. I started thinking of artwork. You have seen those 22 punched tin silhouettes that people make. I could do that with this revolver. It had a comfortable heft and the ugly grip fit my hand well. I shot a box of 50 and thought I could enjoy shooting this revolver. I decided to swap out and install the 22 Magnum cylinder. It was easily accomplished. I had high expectations after the 22 performance. I began shooting and reloading. The first thing I knew, the safety was GONE! I found it on the ground. It went right back into the pistol and functioned. MIM parts! I checked the revolver over and I determined it was UNSAFE TO FIRE. The barrel was loose. I was able to remove the barrel and discovered that the "barrel" is a shroud of pot metal attached w/threads and red loctite. In less than 100 rounds this revolver had failed. The safety had failed and fallen out, the barrel shroud had loosened enough to be removed by hand and I just cannot suggest anybody buy one. The Heritage Rough Rider series of 22, 22 WMR and 17 calibers gets a Josey UNSAFE DO NOT BUY award.

I had a buddy with one a few years back, same conclusion. For $50.00 more he could have gotten a used Single-Six that his grandkids could've shot (he's 25). It probably got 500 rounds through it before it was sold at a loss. Live and Learn.

I was planning on picking up one of these as a plinker. I must admit to be recieving conflciting information on them. The ones Ive handled in the gunshops seem to be decently put together, though Id never call them a pretty gun. Ive been reading old posts back on firing line, and there seems to be many people who own them and say they are great guns for the price. On the other hand, we get a range report of a new one which has some major issues straight out the box. Im going to have to rethink getting one now.

Josey, maybe you just ended up with a horrible lemon, and should give heritage a chance to set things right. Just a thought

I did some checking. Dealers say that the barrels/shrouds do fall off sometimes. There is a steel liner with a aluminum shroud that is held together with red Loctite. The frames are aluminum too. The consensus is that they are the new Jennings/Bryco/Davis/Lorcin. One dealer has stopped handling them because they, "just fall apart!"

I just reciently picked up one of those. I think it is a excellent gun. I already have 1500+ rds through mine. ( Mixed .22 LR and Magnum) It has had ZERO problems thus far.

BTW- The barrels aren't made of "Pot Metal" They are made of 1215 Steel. :scrutiny:

Correct, the barrel is steel. The barrel shroud is pot metal. The 22 barrel is wrapped in a pot metal shroud. It is difficult to determine until the shroud falls off. My Rough Rider is history. Dealer credit.

My brother has one with well over 5000 rnds through it, with no issues, and I know a few other with similar results. it is definitely on my short lidt of guns to buy. What more do you want from a gun that costs 125 bucks NIB?
