Hey everyone!
I realize I haven't posted in a while, I've been in the big sandbox. I don't mean it to seem like i'm jumping on here just to ask a favor, this is honestly the first chance i've had to post.
Anyways, my grandmother has fallen ill, and i seriously doubt she has much longer. In addition, i firmly believe that my grandfather is only living because he takes care of her. He also hasn't taken care of himself over the years.
My grandfather is a helluva guy, you guys would love him. he really got me into shooting, and he's been a helluva grandfather to me, even though he's not my real grandfather. I love the guy a bunch.
Whenever we shoot, I hear him reminisce about the Garand he used when he was in the military. He extolls its virtues (with good reason) constantly. He however cannot afford one.
Being that I'm in iraq and making good money... I want to give him the rifle that he's lusted after since he left the marines in the 60s.
What I need, since i'm in iraq, is for someone to explain how i can do this legally, and also help finding a rifle.
As for the first part, i BELIEVE that as long as it gets transfered to a shop and he picks it up (and goes thru the b/g check and the Kali 10 day wait) I can pay for it. I think i'll be within the law, as I'm not buying the gun then handing it to someone else.
Also, I need to locate a rifle. I have a C&R license, although it ain't here with me, so i'll probably need to go with a private seller or thru a shop somewheres. The gun would also need to be sent to a shop near him (Ridgecrest, CA) so he can do the paperwork and pick 'er up.
I really want to give gramps the rifle he's lusted after, but i don't want to run afowl of the law. If anyone has any advice on how i can gift him an M1 while here in Iraq, i'd appreciate it.
Thanks a bunch guys,
James
P.S. The sandbox sucks, but i'm survivin.
