They maybe are lying about when htey're made. Figure as many have been sold and are still being sold I find it hard to believe they were made 10yrs ago. I don't know what got me thinking about this but I really don't believe it. There's just too many still in circulation for me to think they're not being made.

Maybe I'm crazy though

You would be right, Customs and other LE's have caught people bringing in and selling mags from outside of the US that of course would not have been stamped LE only. And something else to think about.

I worked at a gun shop and spoke with some reps not long after the ban went into effect. I may get these mixed up. But some of the gun makers got wind of this and started mass producing mags about 2 months out from what the reps told me. And I mean 24 hours a day fast as the machines would kick them out. Think about how many they could make in 2 months like that.

If I recall Para-Ord stopped making guns for the 2 months and ran the assembly line at top production for the whole 2 months, 24 hours a day, that is what I heard any way. A rep told me they had ware house full of mags. They ran the assembly line right up to the last minute.

With any luck the ban thing will sunset in 2004 and we will not have to worry about it.

wow. I didn't know they went that far. I was thinking maybe forgot to stamp every 10th or so mag off the line. That would make sense though to get those out when the high demand was about ot hit

The one I got a kick out of was actually STAMPED PRE-BAN. I think it was from the far east. If it were cheaper, I would have purchased it just for a conversion piece.

Remember that the exempt pre-ban magazines are magazines that were made prior to 9/13/94 and located anywhere in the world. Preban magazines can be imported. The manufacturers also went around to LEO agencies and anyone else they could think of to trade postban magazines for the prebans. They then sold the prebans to the public.

I also have serious doubts that even half of the "imported" preban magazines were actually made prior to the ban. Especially the "prebans" you can order directly from Euro countries.

I know that alot of companies really ramped up their production of mags though before the ban. But still, you gotta suspect that most of the prebans on Gunbroker are in fact unstamped post bans.

Honestly I don't care either way as long as they aren't stamped "LEO & Gov. use only 9/94" when I get them.

Funny, I was just thinking about this today.

Who's to say that all those pre-ban AK mags were in fact made before 9/13/94, for example? How could you tell?

IIRC, the lack of any LEO/Gov/Military markings or date-stamping is supposed to be an affirmative defense that the mag in question is pre-ban, i.e. it cannot now be proved beyond a reasonable doubt that the posessor knowingly had a contraband post-ban full-capacity magazine. Of course, that argument doesn't fly if the mag in question is for a gun that was not produced/imported prior to 9/94.

It's kind of an open secret, but used to be a lot of GI's and other people who were visiting, say, Germany would fill duffle-bags with full-cap Glock/Sig/HK/Beretta/etc. magazines that they bought at places like Franconia-Jagd for the equivalent of $8-15 each, and bring 'em back for their buddies or to sell at gun shows or on-line. The GI pipeline, in particular, got closed down in the final months of the Clinton administration, though...

I always get a kick out of seeing people advertise mags as "pre-ban" when the model they are made for didn't even come out for years after then ban. :banghead: Yeah, sure, they just happened to make all these mags and then based the gun around it. While I see little enforcement of this from the feds, to me it's still unlawful. But, I guess some people need those extra 2 or 3 rnds to hit thier target:uhoh: (or just to boost thier egos when they brag about thier "pre-ban" mags) Or is it that people are that lazy when it comes to loading mags. :neener:
I just hope that everyone that spent the big $$$ for high-caps sees the values drop after the ban sunsets:neener:

You have put your finger on the fallacy of prohibition. You can make something against the law but you can't stop people from doing it. Think of alcohol and currently, drugs.

Since there is no way to tell when the mags are made, only honest people (like legitimate USA factories) will comply with the law).

None of my non-neutered mags are stamped. Therefore they are all legal. So if the Russians, Chinese, Bulgarians, or Brazillians made the magazines after '94 it is no skin off my nose. I'm obeying the law. They are just pieces of sheet metal. Just goes to show how stupid the law is to begin with.

KEEP PACKING SLIPS

I make sure that I keep the packing slips that prove that the mags were claimed to be preban when they were shipped to me.

Look at this one.
It's preban. Says so right on it.

Wondernine - That situation will change id the proposed AW ban replacement is passed. It moves the burden of proof on mags from the cops onto the owner.

SIGH.....

theres no way they'll put the jews in concentration camps right?(germany, 1933) theres no way they'll ban mags over 10 rounds, and our rifles, right? (here, 1993) Theres no way they'll ban our(insert firearm of choice here) right? (california, too often) Sigh.. want me to continue?
get your head out of the sand, man! The reason the anti-gunners are winning ( and yes, unfortunately right now they are) it's because they aren't in denial like most of us are. Do you think Sarah Brady said " I don't think they'll keep those evil handguns legal anyway, so I just won't worry about it and let someone else do it" NO. she got off her butt and DID something. we have to believe that it can and WILL be done unless we do something and we HAVE to do something, or else we've lost before the battle's even begun.
