Hi-cap Pump!

Curious as to why you'd pick the bolt action over the pump? Faster follow up shots are with the pump. Btw, I've been considering getting one of the Ranch guns for some time. Picked this up last night. Mounted a Leupold 2x7 scope, and A2 flash hider. Won't get to shoot it till the weekend, but it is a handy little package. :) It will be a nice companion to my 7615P.

Among many other reasons to pick a bolt over the 7615 pump would be, accuracy, cost to buy, more friendly platform for optics, trigger, overall weight, better stock fit. I know there are a few other.

Also, the Ruger is still in production which could be an advantage. There are a few parts on the 7615 which are hard to find. The mag well for instance as well as any other part that is specific to the 223/5.56 chambering.

As far as follow up shots, for a defense rifle in 223, I would always pick the 7615. 223 has little recoil and in that chambering, the pump is faster. Maybe not so much in heavier cartridges. For a ranch rifle, it’s more of a wash with possibly a slight edge to the bolt gun for its accuracy.

Having said all of that I no longer own a bolt action and have both a 7615 and 7600 Carbine in 30-06. I’m lefty and would not notice if bolt actions disappeared entirely.....except it would be easier for me to shop for guns

As far as hunting is concerned, I see no practical differences that would make or break a bolt action vs a pump. My 7615 is very accurate and I have knocked down a few varmints with it.
