Well, in the 10 months and 27 days since I quit drinking, I have been padding my Fun Money stash. Pretty sobering (pun intended) to find out how much money saved by not buying a gallon of Vodka a week (even cheap vodka) can add up to over time.

Need a new vice, so I figured I'd go all-in and take up smoking

;)

Uberti 1851 and 1861 Navy replicas. Need to refinish the grips with a darker stain, although I may opt for faux Ivory on the '51. (Of course then I would need TWO '51s with ivory grips for when I get my 'Wild Bill' on)

Tombstone Grips over in Oregon has caught my eye. Prices seem reasonable and he wants a physical hard paper / index card cut-out matching the frame mailed to him first so he can match the frame more precisely.

Congratulations on the keeping up the fight this far. I have friends who have struggled and it’s a constant battle. As a swap from alcohol to firearms I think you might have made your life longer and your wallet emptier... the gun bug bites hard and keeps sucking. Cap and ball revolvers are a great way to slow down and have some fun though.

Welcome from the Left Coast of WA State! You now have a new addiction... join the crowd!

Nice looking revolvers. I am partial to 1851 Navy "type" guns, mostly the Pietta Confederates. When your new addiction becomes as advanced as mine, you will find yourself afflicted with "parts-changer syndrome".

There is no known cure, and no rehab. ;)

Regards,

Jim

Good job on putting down the bottle and picking up the gun. Even if it is trading one addiction for another.;) I never was much of a drinker myself and I thank my higher power for that, but the old black powder has got her hooks in me!

And that's not counting my long gun's.

If you order the grips, LMK how you like them. I'm here in Oregon and came close to ordering some myself. But I was hoping they were real stag horn to go with my knife. Now I have been looking for some horn big enough to (try) and make my own.

Hi JD... thanks for sharing.

I'm in a similar boat. I quit drinking a little over a year ago and all that money I was blowing starting accumulating. A lot of mine has went towards "smoking" as well. I've fallen in neck deep on the blackpowder. Its a more rewarding hobby, but I ain't saving any money.

Keep coming back it works if you work it...

Not to mention the positive health benefits from not consuming a gallon of vodka a week. Dad was an alcoholic, but gave it up and cigarettes after two heart attacks. Welcome, be strong, and enjoy the uh, smoke :)

Very nice pistols. Hope you enjoy them.

Good luck with the staying sober. I am lucky and never really drank. The people I know that have been successful say a hobby and someone to enjoy it with helps.

Congratulations!

Alcoholism runs in the family, nothing makes me happier than to know someone is winning that fight.

Congratulations on quitting the serious drinking!!!!! Being a Sailor for now 29 years, the bottle & Cigars took over my life several years ago. Now 6 years later and still do not want a drop nor a smoke. As it was said in earlier posts, money will not be saved in this BP shooting arena. But it is a ton more fun!!!

I gave up smoking (cigarettes) and took up gambling ($6 in lotto ticket once a month) and had a lot of money freed up myself.
Which I spendt on various guns and the sports and competitions shooting them.

Congratulations on the 10+ months.

I think you'll like your new vice. I love my smokepoles.
