Questions about the Hi-Point C9 9mm, any accessories?

I recently bought a Hi-Point C9 9mm. This is only my second pistol that isn't a wheel gun (I have a Ruger Blackhawk .357, an a Ruger Redhawk .44 Mag both of which have NEVER given me any problems). The other semi-auto is a Ruger Mark II .22 (again, never any issues).
My brother bought a C9 and after some research I went for it. I checked every distributor in California, and only one shop had any in stock, and they only had 2 left, and this was after not getting ANY for 6 months.
The first 200 rounds that I put through the C9 were Win. 124-grain FMJ's. I got about 6 jams and was a bit disappointed with the jams, but I chalked it up to the break in on the new pistol.
Since then I've put about another 200 rounds of Rem. 115-grain UMC, Reloads with 124-grain lead slugs, and reloads of 95-grain HPJ. Not a single jam or problem! I believe it is because the Win. 124g FMJ's are a bit longer, and my C9 doesn't like to feed them properly into the chamber.

I do have a few questions though, I really wanted a C9-Comp. but I was told that they don't sell them in California... Is this really the case? Is there a way to add the compensator to my C9, and is that legal in California? Does anyone know of any laser sights that I can add to my C9 (that don't cost more than the pistol does, and there is no rails on the C9)? Does anyone know if there are alternative grips that I can put on the C9? And finally, your favorite holsters for the C9.

Knowing California, probably. The law requires that a manufacturer certify every single model or variant of a given gun as being "drop safe" and other criteria, and HP probably did not wish to do that, considering the price point.

Is there a way to add the compensator to my C9, and is that legal in California?

I would consult with Hi-Point. I see no reason why it would be illegal in CA, but it depends on the design of the compensated vs. non-compensated models. If the comped model has a different slide or frame, or if it is a replacement barrel that would require pressing out of and into the frame, it would not be feasible. If the comp is just an addition to the barrel, it might be.
 
They do have a problem with longer ammo. Some are actually more reliable with hollowpoints than with FMJ. They are great guns and +P rated. My .380acp feeds better than my 9mm. Maybe because the rounds are shorter but I think the .380's stack straighter in the mag because of the straight wall compared to the slightly tapered wall of the 9mm luger. I don't think I've ever had a jam with my .380 or my .45acp. My 9mm had a couple (not many) jams so I sent it in and now it works pretty well. It probably jams once every hundred rounds or so. I know that's not much but it's enough to disqualify it as a carry weapon in my opinion.

You would have to change the barrel in order to add a compensator.

There are no other grip choices. They are slippery plastic so it's wise to add some slip on grips.

Lots of holsters available including Fobus. I just use an Uncle Mike's shoulder holster or a Crosman pellet gun holster. They are a bit thick and edges too sharp to use an IWB holster which has always been my holster of choice. Enjoy!

Yea, that's what the dealer told me. I wasn't quite sure if he knew what he was talking about because I bought the pistol at a sporting goods store, but I guess he knew more than me! He told me that the only Hi-Points that are sold in CA are the 9mm & .380 pistols (non-comp versions). He went on to say that every firearm that the manufacture wants to sell in CA, they have to give the state 1 firearm free, and then pay the state 4K-6K. Which is a bit of a bummer because I would love to own a Hi-Point .45...
Damn ridiculous CA gun laws! I can't even use lead shot now when bird hunting...

Holster: It fits perfectly in the Galco that I got for my Taurus 745. The numbers on the leather are: B819L, STO444. This is an IWB with a plastic belt clip. It was very inexpensive. I wear the Taurus for daily, but I wear the HPc9 when I'm playing in the water (fishing, canoeing, bowfishing, etc.).

ETA: For the grip, I wrap hockey tape around it. It's cheaper than aftermarkets, and it gives me all the hold I need. As an added bonus, it makes my friends giggle.

The "fits all Glocks" Hogue slip on grip fits the C9 great, on mine i used a mountain bike inner tube, streched it over the stock grip and trimmed it. it looks pretty good and works great
