I recently acquired a used Hi Point 995 9mm carbine and have discovered a problem. After every few rounds fired, the operator handle locks in the opened position. It's quite easy to simply pull it back and release, but what an annoying P.I.T.A. I'm planning to contact Hi Point customer support tomorrow, and if necessay send the carbine in to them. I know these are supposed to be a non-stop running machine. Has anyone else experienced the lock open problem?

Oddly, I haven't. The way it is made I'm very surprised it hasn't happened on mine:scrutiny:

Likely a magazine problem. Try a new magazine and see how it goes.

Has nothing to do with the mag (as far as I can tell). The way these things are designed, when the operator handle is in its furthest rearward position the handle can be pushed in to lock the action open. From what I can tell, when the carbine is fired, the handle is somehow going into that pushed-in position. If I manually free it, and cycle the action, it's ready to fire again, until the next lock-up. Can't see how this could be mag related...It's just kinda weird.

They don't have a regular magazine initiated hold-open. For some reason the free knob at the end of the cocking handle is dropping into the receiver cover. Are there burrs on the inside of that free knob or around the locking hole?

No burrs...In fact, I think it's quite the opposite...seems to be very smooth, loose and free. So much so that it's going where it shouldn't.

Interesting comment. I had to go look at the parts diagram, but I don't see a spring associated with the operator handle. Is there supposed to be a spring? You guys that have the carbine, how easily does the roller move back and forth on the operator handle? Mine is very loose and easy to move.

I would suspect one of two things...Either it's barely catching on the end of the sliding sleeve, whitch could be fixed by SLIGHTLY chamfering the end of the sliding sleeve, so It couldn't get hung up by a slight contact, OR that the shoulder screw or the dust cover is slightly bent.

Mine works very freely, and there is no spring in the area. Clipper might be on to something with the bent bolt/screw or cover suggestion.
