(...aren't I the hypocrite... :neener: )

I'm thinking about taking the plunge and buying a 9mm version as a plinker/HD carbine to take over for my coach gun. My wife's not as enthusiastic about shooting as I, and she doesn't tolerate recoil & noise (she doesn't shoot my K-38 b/c "it's TOO loud"....

My questions are: Does the Hi-Point have a hold-open feature for when the mag is shot to empty? (...the loudest sound in a gunfight is "click", not "BANG"...)

If not, would there be any problem loading two tracer rounds so they would be the last fired in each mag? (...mainly in its HD role...)

Any news lately on whether Hi-Point will be offering a high-cap version of their carbine? (I'd love one that uses Uzi or Sten mags... )

Many thanks in advance.... :D

Short answers are:

I don't know if the Hi Point holds open. I'm sure someone will come along shortly and be able to tell us.

Yes, there's a problem with using tracers in a HD gun. Two, actually.
First, you'll never see them. Tracers don't light up at the muzzle. Many require 100 yards. Second, do you really want something potentially flammable burying itself into your walls?

I also have no idea about hi cap models, but I imagine hi-cap mags should be available from somewhere.

Sorry, no bolt hold open (at least on mine).

Tracers read above^^^

There are 15 round mags available but some have reported problems with feeding...but expect to see someone start making hi-caps pretty soon, as these guns are now so common. They've got a new stock out, and some other aftermarket accessories already. Heck, I got a flyer from Centerfire Systems yesterday, and the have 40 round "snail" drums for 1911s(!!!!) among others. expect someone to figure out theres $$$ to be made.

Having said that, I don't mind the 10 round mag, its quick enough to change...figure if I need more than 10, its to get to one of my other guns anyway...I do wish it had a bolt hold open though..

Tracers strike me as a VERY bad idea. They might light your house on fire. Or they might light the perp on fire. Can you imagine the legal hassles over THAT?

As some have already answered, there is no hold open feature on the HP Carbine. You can lock the bolt open manually, but it is still very difficult to see inside to manually inspect for a chambered round. Your wife may find that the carbine stings her cheek when shooting it. The shape of the stock and the position of bolt assembly within the gun tends to smack your cheek if you have a nice cheek weld. In regard to hi-cap mags, I remember reading a thread supposedly by one of the designers of the carbine on another forum. In this thread the "designer" answered a number of questions about the design of the carbine. One of the things that he mentioned was that Hi-Point had tried the carbine with a larger capacity magazine, but that the hi-cap mags did not prove as reliable as the original 10 rounder. Therefore they stuck with the 10 round mag. I don't know if this makes sense or not, but I can tell you that the factory magazine on the Hi-point seem to be poorly designed and fabricated. It is the one thing about my carbine that really gives me cause for concern. That said, I'm still waiting for my Hi-Point 9mm carbine to malfunction, but it keeps perfectly chugging along.

I tried one once in GA, as a truck stop owner took me out to the woods behind his business. (A truck stop with guns n ammo for sale!!!)
We wandered about, plinking with the 9mm HiPoint, and I absolutely loved it.
Yeah, it felt kinda cheap, but it was minute-of-beer-can accurate and I drove away relaxed and refreshed. There were no malfs with the steel cased Wolf ball ammo.
I spent no time on a real range with it, but I had fun.
