Does anyone here have any experience on these guns. I have heard some people say they are big ugly but they work. I am interested if anyone here has any.
Thanks,
ron

You said it..

Heavy, Ugly, Bulky...

Go "Bang" every time.

Lifetime UNLIMITED warranty, even if you buy it used, it's the life of the GUN not the life of the Owner.

Cheap, great truck/car/toolbox/fishing gun...

Anyone who talks down about them either hasn't owned one, or didn't take advantage of the warranty if they had issues :)

If you can only scrape up $139 it's an excellent choice. Ugly, heavy but pretty dependable from what I've heard.

Their carbines are a lot of fun. the new 995 TS is better than the old 995. It shoots 9mm and hold ten. There is a .40 as well. Would have been nice if it, at the least, held 15. It will only cost you about $250. Nice little trunk or extra rifle. It's not however, a substitute for an AR or an AK.

Hi Point has a lifetime warranty for their weapons.

As for the handguns - they look and feel like a boat anchor. I shot the .45 acp one time at my range - it was accurate and it did go bang. You can spend another hundred or so and get a much better gun.

IMHO,

I would definately go with spending another $100. My 24/7 PT Pro C 9mm Taurus could be the exception to the rule, but it's an extremely dependable pistol. Problem is, I don't think that model is still being made, except in the newer .45acp version. Look it up on www.taurususa.com . Ignore the msrp of $492 (last time I checked). You should be able to get one for at least $75-100 less. I've seen some like mine for $335 up to $425.

Big fan here.

Love my 995 carbine. good, reliable, ugly guns. Paid 149 new long time ago.

Will not replace my CZ's, Rugers, etc but a lot of fun for cheap money;

Called the Main office once for a minor question - ended up shooting the beeze with one of the head dudes who did not even tell me he was a head dude til I asked. Talked and BS'ed for an hour. Good people, great warranty.

Really want some fun? Put a scope on the 995 ! Unreal!

The trigger could use some work but a little home remedy made it better. Only use factory mags as the after market stuff I found to be junk.

Had to buy the wife one she liked it so much.

So, accurate, reliable, and a lifetime warranty aren't good enough? How much better can you get for $100 more? Aestheticaly pleasing? Is that all?

I would buy one if I found it used for under $100. Toss it under my work bench in the garage. Cheap, ugly guns that generally work pretty well.

Im a huge fan. I like them because they are reliable, and the owner of the company is a good guy. A husband and wife team that support thier local community and small businesses.

As far as thier being ugly. I just do not get it. I think Chrome and shiney guns are ugly as sin, but if the price were right I would buy one.

The only complaint I have is the magazine capacity on the 995TS... 10 is too little.

Every time a Hi-Point thread comes up, I like to add my usual line...

I've often said that my C9 was almost worth the $80 I paid for it.:D

But seriously, you pretty much said it all when you wrote:
...people say they are big ugly but they work.

I am a school trained gunsmith....I love highpoints for what they are...

ugly...
heavy...
but go bang and are reasonably accurate.....every time...

never had one break on me yet...
keep one in a tool box and one in a tackle box if you want...
and you wont care if it gets scratched....

a poor man can scrap the money for one and be reasonably protected...

I have a C9 that goes BANG when expected, doesn't jam, and is accurate. I really don't think that it's as ugly as the bigger .40 and .45 cal.

I've got three other .40S&Ws (Taurus & S&W) that I shoot also.

The wife has issues with limpwristing handguns. Of all my pistols, the C9 seems to be the very most sensitive to it. Other than that, yes, it'll go bang faithfully.

I went shooting with a friend of a friend who had a odd principle, in that he only owns and shoots big-cartridge Dan Wesson revolvers, but he bought Hi-Point pistols in 9, .40, and .45, almost as if to say he wants to be well-rounded enough that he has all the major cartridges, but doesn't want to pay any more money than absolutely necessary to do it.

I shot them all, I didn't particularly LIKE shooting them. I told him I wouldn't keep one for defense, he said he wouldn't either, his Raging Bull .454 was his defensive gun. I switched to shotguns for the rest of the day.

The reason they are blocky and ugly is that they are blowback-operated. They are the only major-caliber guns I can think of that work this way. They have to have a big heavy slide and spring to hold them shut until the bullet clears the barrel. IN THIS, I think they are made to skip around one of the critical processes in designing an automatic handgun. This is why they are cheaper.

Cheap? Yeah. Do they work? Yes. So does a rock.

I've had two friends with Hi-Points. Both had 9mm's and they were reliable guns and reasonably accurate. The guns were ugly as hell but both friends were on a serious budget and the gun you have today is better than the one you wish for over the next couple of years.

what, another one of these? doesn't anyone use the search option?

that said, i have experience with the .45ACP. big, ugly, heavy, awkward, like my last date. but, it worked. accurate, reliable, no issues with jamming. it put out.

like my last date.

HiPoints are just like the fat girl you took home from the club. it was loads of fun, but you hope your buddies don't find out.

if you were to make a pile of lesser quality guns the hipoints would be sitting on top...

they are the best of the worst...

i guess thats a good thing i dunno....

as for the "school trained gunsmith" that has never seen a hipoint break, they are either a very very bored gunsmith, or they are in an area not populated by many of them...
