OK guys, help me make up my mind. My local hardware has a hi polish blue, wood gripped, adjustable sighted (Browning Millets) Hi Power, made in Beligum, assembled in Portugal, with 1 Italy marked hi-cap.
He wants my NAA Guardian .32 ACP, which is clean, with box and several extra mags and $ 210 out the door for it.
Here is the hook....
The gun has been re-blued, and there are minor traces of light pitting underneath. It's not the best re-blue, but, except for the pitting, it's not the worst, either. The markings are all pretty clear and not washed out by the polish. It seems clean and tight in all other regards, and has the early, small safety, which would go in a hurry, as I like the factory ambi. He is willing to let me shoot the gun prior to doing the deal.
Well, what do ya think, guys, lets hear from ya.....

It sounds high. You can buy a brand new in box Browning High Power Standard FS for $610.00 and AS for $645.00.

That gun doesn't sound special at all, it's not an old Belgium piece. The new ones are Made in Belgium assembled in Portugal. He wan'ts your nice NAA .32 and $210.00 for that re-blued/pitted high power? I would pass!

Dat's my 2 cents anyway. ;)

pass...that guardian is more useful as a carry piece anyhow.

You will end up missing the guardian even if you end up loving the hi power.

OK, you guys win out, I'll pass. I kinda expected everyone to tell me "Yeah, go for it" but you do raise some serious points. To keep the NAA won't cost me anything, and there are more HP's out there, right?
Thanks!
Chris

If'n yours doesn't *have* to be a Browing, you can get an Israeli military import for ~$350, probably with two 13-round mags, a holster and mag carrier. I did, anyway.

The finish is nothing to brag about, and they have the older, itty-bitty safety and a spur (semi-bobbed) hammer. They're also equipped with cheap, plastic stocks and fixed sights (who needs adjustable sights anyway?).

They are, however, genuine FN Belgian Hi-Power pistols, and mine is dependable as heck. It's for shootin', not for lookin' at.

Look around, especially on the FN Hi-Power forum (fnhipower.com); they have a For Sale section.

I get an odd feeling whenever I see something used with a new coat of paint (or in this case, blueing) on it. My new FN MkIII was $550. Probably find them for a little less than that elsewhere. I think most everyone should have a Hi-Power at one time or the other. Go for a Hi-Power but don't get one that you have any qualms over. Qualms are the guardian gun angel telling you to pass on the deal. (I have been known to ignore those qualms on occasion and it's always been to my misfortune.)

My new FN MkIII was $550.

Mine was too. I would have a REALLY hard time paying more than that. It's not that the gun's not worth it, but I don't have that kind of budget.

If you have to think twice about it, don't get it. It seems pretty darn expensive, too. Look for a better deal/better specimin.
