Are the MecGar 15 round Hi-Power mags as reliable as the MecGar 13 round mags? Any issues with obtaining replacement springs for the 15 round mags?

My only thought is, the 13 round mag was designed so the spring cannot be overcompressed.

A HP mag loaded in WWII will still be perfectly functional today.

Adding two more rounds squishes the spring another 1/2" or so.

Makes you wonder if the old guys knew what they were doing way back then?

The Mec Gar 15 rounders are as reliable under normal use.

It is true that additional sustained compression of the springs will cause the spring to fatigue somewhat sooner than the 13 rounders, but new springs are available from Wolff.

the Mec-Gar 15's have a hollow follower, with the mag spring sitting inside the follower....once it was said, one turned slightly, and wedged so the mag did not work....I have never seen it, and have used the HP since the early 60's...war to targets without question the "old guys" know what they are doing then and now, but that is only understood with a little age and wisdom.

1. Mecgar 15 round HP mags work great and I have had no problems with the 4 I have.

2. The 15 rnd. springs are very different from the 13 rnd. springs.

3. Replacement 15 rnd. springs are not available from Wolff, Mecgar, or anywhere else. Good luck getting Mecgar (US or Italy) to reply to any type of communication.

I have never had a problem with my Mecgar 15 rounders. Over 1000+ round in the past year. Different springs in a 13 and a 15 rounder. Wolff springs sells both and there are zero issues with getting these springs.

I use the 15 rounders too. No problems. I have had exactly 1 malfuction with my HiPowers. It was my handloads fault. Too light to cycle the slide fully.

Rellascout,
Did you actually get Wolff replacements for Mecgar HP 15 rounders??? I haven't looked at their catalog for about a year, but as of then their catalog and an e-mail from them said they don't make/have them.

I stand corrected. I believe you can get them direct from Mecgar.

Wolf only has ones for the 13.

OK, thought that was the case. I have an e-mail in to Wolff to check.
I have called, e-mailed, and written to Mecgar in the US and Italy MANY times asking about 15 rounder springs. I have never gotten any reply. I just hope my springs holdout for a good number of thousands of rounds.

Mecgar 15 rounders have worked well for me. Mecgar just flat makes good magazines. I wouldn't hesitate to buy anything they make.

I also have 2 17rd KRD magazines that look kinda rough, but work well. Hard to get 17 rounds in there with out using the mag loader that comes with them, but they come out okay, and that is what matters.
