Hi Power trigger removal: can't get the pin out. Also mag safety question

When I was trying to remove the magazine safety pin, it was so hard I just punted and took it to a smith.

If you're worried, that's what I'd do.

Tried soaking 12 hours in penetrating oil. Steel punches steel hammers 3 people helping. Not a budge. FRICKING denting my steel punch. LOL

Going to try a washer shim stack and a vise.

Got it out! Made a shim stack and got an automotive drain plug to use as a ram in the vise... cranked it down until my arms were shaking and finally... CRACK!!!! My son and I both thought the frame must have cracked but nope, it was just the pin letting go. I've NEVER come across a pin that tight in any engine or gun.

Thanks for the advise. Got the mag safety out and it feels smoother now. Not much lighter, but the grit is gone.

1K,

I've been reading your problem evolve getting that pin out. I took mine out to see how tightly it was in. Mine came out with no where close to your level of effort. Now I'll share I had to put a few Thor like whacks onto the pin, but it came out, then went right back in.

I'm glad you got it out. How was the re-install?

I have an arbor press that I use to start the trigger pins moving. I bought the press for another purpose but found it works very well for this job (after dinging a frame with a punch that slipped).

Interestingly enough, mine came right out with a few solid hammer blows on a nail punch.

Dang, man. Yours must have never been removed since it left the factory. Never heard of a pin being in that tight.

I recently removed the mag safety from my Kareen and it was a piece of cake, very easy. I also did some gentle stoning of the sear and hammer hook, there was visible roughness that I could see with my bare eyes. It's like a whole new gun now.

Yeah, the vise/press method is definitely the way to go in this case. In future, if something won't budge after some serious whacks with a punch, I'm just going to the vise.

Pretty. I spent some time in Portugal and someday would love a high polish blued HP with assembled in Portugal on it. :)
