Ok, I most sincerely apologize! I thought all the gushing I have read about the Browning Hi Power being the greatest 9mm ever - was a little over the top. I just went to the range today and my boss, a former police officer, had his old service pistol with him. A Belgian Browning Hi Power. Wow! The grip, the accuracy, the balance.... Why did the Belgians stop making these?

What should I do now that I have had a taste? Does anything in current production even come close?

BTW, he said he paid about $450 in the early seventies and it took him 3 years to save up for it.

Browning is still selling the traditional polished blue P-35. They cost more than $450 these days.

Although I have no personal experience in the matter, I've been told that the CZ-75 can scratch the BHP itch.

I've got a couple of BHPs. They are unusual in that I've never considered them "for sale". My kids can try to wear them out - I've not had any luck with that - they're rather like Timex in that regard.

Like the others said - it's still being made.... I had one back in the
late 1970s bought it used for $275 - I didn't care much for the 9mm caliber
so it seems attractive in the .40 S&W current alt. offering.

I have my Dad's 1972 Belgium Browning Hi Power with original box, black vinyl case, paperwork, and $179 K-Mart price sticker still attached :) I think your boss is mistaken that he paid $450 for one back then unless it was a real custom job.

I love that gun. Probably 98%+ condition and sweet, sweet, sweet...

I've always thought it was worth about $500... but it looks like they're quickly approaching the $700-$800 mark now.

found it

Glad to hear they are available. Someone told me I could only get a knock off made in Japan. I looked all over the FNH USA web site and the only 9mm I can find is the FNP. Ah ha, I see you have to go to Browning.com. Thanks.

Yep. FN makes them, but all the High Powers sold in the US are now marketed under a Browning rollmark. Same pistol with either of those two rollmarks. Bud's Gun Shop has them for $674.95, which is a pretty good price for a NIB these days.

and then thereare clones

FM - is a clone made in argentina, apparently on
the same equipment as the FNs

there is also a copy made by FEG PJK 9HP or FEG FM9
(but not the older FEG P9R) --
on funbroker between 255 to 300. They are not made
on the same equipment as BHP (which is what Argentinian
FM is made on) -- so I do not want to claim that the quality of marksmanship and metallurgy is exact as BHP,
but you can do some research on the FEG FM9 (with vented rib on top of the slide)

I picked up this old P35 Nazi marked one a few months ago for $400 and its a sweet little shooter.

I have two BHP's, a custom one and the P35....I wouldn't part with either.

Here they are, no need to say which is which I suppose:D
