A local dealer has a mint(as new) Belgian Browning Hi Power with one mag and no box, or papers. He's asking $650 and just never haggles on decent guns like this one. I like the Hi Powers, but know little about them. How does this price sound?

If it's truly "mint" condition, that is a fair price, I've seen them higher. If it's going to be a collectors peice then the box and papers mean more. If you just want the gun, it's not as big of a deal, as long as you don't pay out the nose for it.

It's JMB's finally design and one that cured the few known issues with the Colt Government design. It did though, receive a trigger that is not able to be tuned as sweet. Personally, I think it's the best designed pistol of all time. It's reliable as the day is long and will go "bang" in relation to each trigger pull, more than any pistol I know of. Add the comfort level in the hand and the hi-capacity of the double stack magazine and you have a pistol that's tough to beat at any price. That's my opinion, take it for what it costs you. ;)

jrobb45, that's a great pistol, but the price seems a little high. Unless it's the coveted "T-series" HP of course.

Around here, new blued HPs with two mags sell for $550-590 at the gun shops. CDNN Investments has them on sale right now for a lot less.

It may be worth a few minutes to call them and see if they have any left.

Good luck with your possible purchase! You can't go wrong with the BHP!

I watched my boss save and save for over a year to have a coveted Belgian-made Belgian-assembled Hi-Power. I did a lot of internet research for him as far as tracking them down, watching the auction sites, production years, prices, etc.

What "we" finally joyfully settled on was an unfired NIB 1982 adjustable sight P35 with all papers and two factory 13-rd magazines:

$685 and that was about as low as we ever thought we would find for NIB.

Came from the personal collection of a gun dealer both I and the boss have known for years. Could'a easily gone for over seven bills to a stranger......

If we are talking about new BHPs you currently have the choice of the Browning marked or the FN marked. The Browning will have a better polish and finish and cost 100-150 dollars more . The FN will have a paint (epoxy?) over a parkerized finish. They are both made by FN. Choice is really over type of finish and markings, same gun. The gun shop I deal with charges $500 for the FN and $650 for the Browning.

IMO the HP is the classic 9mm of all times with an fantastic grip. The trigger isn't that bad unless you insist on comparing it to a 1911.
