I read somewhere that people are altering some 9mm high cap mag so they will fit a springfield xd. First of all is this legal? Secondly what mags are they altering? Hope someone can help.

Well there are two options and both are legal. Some people are taking beretta mags (I'm really not Beretta literate...92's?) and using those as high caps for the XD. ONly problem with those is they stick out past the mag well a little bit. I think a better solution is to get your hands on some XD-40 mags (about 25 bucks usually) and load them up with 9mm and use those in your XD-9. The 40 mag will hold 15 rounds of 9mm, works fine, and will does not protrude past the bottom of the mag well.

IIRC, any pre-ban mag can be modified for use in any firearm, as long as it still works in the gun it was designed for. Wont swear to it, as I dont work for the BATFE.

I think its the beretta 92 mags, I dont know how to mod them though... Grab a 92 mag, and an XD mag, and compare. Should be pretty obvious.

Personally, I'd take the XD40 mag route.

Concur with above. BTW, in about half a year & a bit of hard prayer, letter writing & some luck, the AWB will be history.

Oh yeah one more thing that just popped into my head but is really quite an important detail about the Beretta 92 mags. You have to drill a hole in the front in the right place (matched up with the top of an XD mag) so that the magazine catch holds the mag in. I think the best option is XD mags...by far.

I went the XD40 mag route. By far the best choice. No mods to the mags for them to fit. You may need to massage the feed lips in just a hair (like .050 or so) to get the last round to feed reliably. Plus, the end-plate fits like it was made for the gun (duh! :D )

Go with the xd 40 mags. Not all beretta mags will lock after the last round. Also being that they are too long if you smack them into the gun too hard it hits the ejector which can break. Mark

Around here modified S&W hicaps were working better than the Berettas.

Even some factory XD mags in 9/40/357 lock too high in the gun; if slammed home hard enough, often enough, they will break ejectors too.

why wait? price won't change...

my question, though, since nobody at hs2000talk has answered it yet:

if the hicap 9mm mags hold 15 rounds, and the standard cap 40 mags hold 10 rounds of 40, but 15 of 9mm... how many 9mm rounds fit in a hi cap 40 mag, designed to hold 12 rounds?

I tried the Berreta 92 mag trick in my HS2000. I even precisely drilled the extra hole for the mag catch. The fit at the bottom of the mag well is shoddy.

How much $ do the XD .40 mags run for?

You can buy the xd 40 mags on the xd forum for I think $23.50 shipped and pre-tweaked for your xd9. Mark
