I need some recommendations on a high cap 9mm under $600. The only 9mm I have now is my little Solo so I need some options. I have yet to find a polymer gun that i enjoy shooting, but i really haven't given them much time. If i do decide to go polymer with this gun, I'll certainly spend more time trying to get accustomed to it.

The primarily purpose of the gun would be for range fun and a nightstand gun. The most important aspect is that the gun HAS to be able to shoot lead reloads. I planned on going with a Glock 19, but after factoring the cost of a Lone Wolf barrel, that's outside my budget. And i already know i don't like XDs or M&Ps. About the only thing on my radar currently is the new Canik TP9SA. I think i would prefer something with a rail also.

You really don't need the aftermarket barrel. Glock, Springfield, S&W, Ruger all have "hi cap" 9mm pistols in your price range. Probably the most crowded market sector of any.

Saw a used G19 just the other day for around $400, and as said you don't need another barrel to shoot reloads, if it gives you peace of mind run a Bore Snake through every 50-100 rounds.
I bet it spends more time on your belt than on the nightstand.

Ruger SR9, Beretta PX4, Walther PPX(looks ugly, But I heard they shoot pretty good, Cheap too), FN FNS, FMK 9C1. Lots of pretty good polymer guns out there that will not break the bank. Just find a range and shoot a few if they rent guns, Or go to a gun shop and see what fits you hand the best. The Canik you mentioned is pretty good from what I have seen aswell.

I've just heard too many people say no to shooting lead through polygonal rifling and i literally have thousands of lead reloads to shoot through.

The gun will NOT be a carry gun. It will sit in the nightstand when not being used for range shooting.

CZ-75B. All steel, 16 round mags, accurate, reliable, and around $500 or so. The P-09 is their full size polymer gun, but I prefer the ergos of their metal framed pistols like the 75B, 85B, SP-01, PCR, P-01, etc. although the P-09, and P-07 are top notch also. I am just not a big polymer guy.

Edited to add the Beretta 92FS. Great range, and HD/nightstand gun. Also had for less that $600 new.

Do you care about trigger systems or safeties or anything else. There are a lot of guns that will fit this. I will plug the Beretta PX4 but I have an affinity for hammer fired pistols...

I'm not fond of DA/SA. I prefer cocked and locked or striker system similar to the Glock. I like the feel of the Sig 229, but that DA first pull isn't something i can get used to.

Albeit polymer framed, there are excellent bargains on Sig sp2022s at the moment.
Easy to find at $357-380.
Accurate, fun to shoot and totally reliable.
Real rifled barrels, too.

You can shoot lead through stock Glock barrels.

Head over to Glock Talk and search the issue if you want more feedback.

I recently picked up and have been shooting an FNX-9. I'm pretty pleased with it so far. Hi cap, mid sized package, good ergos, good price. I would recommend FN'S poly pistols.

Either an FNX, or an FNS if you prefer that system. They are solid pistols at a good price.

My first suggestion would be the CZ75B. Amazing pistol. I love my Glock 19's, but they're Lego toys in comparison.
But if you really are set on polymer, then CZ does those,as well, that also come very highly rated.
And yeah, you just about can't go wrong with a used Glock.
Also, CDNN is selling the walther PPX's for $279 right now ($299 for the stainless slide), and I just saw an ad at my local gun shop where Walther is giving away a polymer holster, mag pouch, AND spare magazine, basically for a $9.99 shipping fee, on all new PPX purchases (you gotta fill out a tiny form and send a copy of your reciept).
The PPX's are 16-round 9mm's, and you could get TWO of these for that $600!!!! :what:
BTW, they also have the (polymer) Ruger SR9 for only $369, another good option, and well within your budget.

Go shoot all the great polymer 9's out there, then shoot a Walther PPQ; come back and tell us what you think.

That's easy. Rent and borrow every 9mm under $600 you can find and buy the one you shoot the best.

Holding guns at a store is fine but I'll never buy something I can't shoot first. Going only by feel and looks I would have never bought a G19 but for whatever reasons I shoot it the best. Likewise, for whatever reason my wife shoots the M&P9c well. I quit trying to figure it out and just went with it.

The PPQ's trigger is to poly guns what a 1911 trigger is to hammer fired guns. Really hard to find an equal.

For some, maybe, I didn't find the PPQ's trigger anything to write home about. But I like Glock triggers, so take that for what it's worth.

If I was looking for a non-carry, non-glock, 9mm for < $600 my short list would be (in no particular order):

Sig 2022
CZ P-09 (or P-07 if you want Glock 19 sized)
CZ 75 (or variant)
XDm
M&P 9 (if you can stand the trigger, I can't even with APEX)
Walther (P99 or PPQ, whichever trigger system you like best)

If you look, you can find lightly used Glock 19's and a Lone wolf barrel for well under $600. I've sen Gen 3's around $400 here and there.

I'm sure there are others, but that's just my opinions. YMMV

If shooting plain lead bullets in the Glock with a stock barrel bothers you there is a no cost alternative. I have been shooting Missouri Bullets with the Hi-Tek-2 coating for months now with the stock Glock barrel. I have had no problems at all with that combination. 124gr lead bullets cost $32/500 and the Hi-Tek coated bullets cost only $3 more, $35/500. Problem solved...

I have a glock 17 that has shot mostly lead bullet with only a couple fmj all through the stock barrel.

That being said I wouldn't recommend one, I'm not bashing them they just dont do it for me and it seems there are better options in the under 600 dollar range or at least to me.

I'd look at the CZ 75 SAO. I had a Cz that I converted to single action only like the SAO but with some upgrades trigger came in at a crisp 1.5lbs with very little pre/post travel was nicer than my Dan Wesson 1911 trigger.

I definitely plan on switching to the coated bullets as I start replenishing my stash. Problem is I have several thousand lead MBC SmallBall reloads i need to shoot up first and it would take me a decade to burn them up just using my little Solo.

I need to just decide if I'm willing to shoot lead through a factory Glock barrel. Seems like every forum I read, it's split 50/50 on whether it's alright or not.

I can't go Smith auto. I had a Sigma and a Shield and hated the triggers on both of those guns.

I also had a Walther P99QA back when they very first came out and i couldn't hit the broad side of a barn work that gun. But granted it was a 40 and had some snappy recoil.

Sell some, maybe? Just thinking out loud.

Well no matter what gun it is its all gonna depend on the bullet to barrel fit. I've ran over 500 lead rounds at once through a stock glock barrel without any sign of build up. Boolit fit is king followed by a good lube than everything else.
