I was curious if anyone has compared different height combs on short stock riot guns.

Trap shooters often like a high comb to raise the point of impact.

My guess is that a somewhat higher comb on a riot gun might make it a bit more comfortable because the shooter's head does not need to be scrunched down so far and that it might help with recoil.

Anyone have any experience in this regard?

Yes. The proper drop is that which puts you on the sight(s) and have you naturally align your eyes along it/them to the target to put the point of aim at the same spot as the point of impact. Fit is important.

Sadly a gun like the 930 SPX means you won't see the sights unles you go from a proper cheek to an improper chin weld. Trap shooters with high stocks have high-at-back ribs for a gun designed solely to see above the barrel a rising bird and break it at about 36-yards. Sometimes people "cheat," maybe by adding a high stock or adding to a regular one, but they "stack" otherwise-lined-up mid and front beads vs. line 'em up for trap. Bottom line? You should be sighting your shotgun the same with eyes closed as open and that fit, that repeatability, muscle memory, regardless of length, is your goal.

There is no correct "answer" to your multiple choice question. I agree with your head positioning but one tends to move a non-customized gun to optimize that which, by the way, may not be conducive to absorbing recoil best.

A lower comb is better on a bead or rifle sighted riot gun, lets you get your head right down in behind the sights without having to scrunch and strain.

I suspect GRs might benefit from a higher comb but I've never shot a short stocked gun with GRs so I couldn't say for sure.
