Here's the deal. From what I gather, the .40 S&W cartridge tends to beat the heck out of the guns they are fired in. If I want a high-mileage .40 which one would be a good idea? I would like to it be realiable.

Thanks.

I can't say that I've seen any hard evidence of what kind of round counts you'd get from .40 S&W pistols. Personally I'd choose one that was specifically designed for the round like the HK USP/P2000, or the SIG 229, and not one that was just a 9mm with a bigger barrel (Beretta, Glock come to mind). That's just personal opinion though.

xd, i love mine, and they handle the cartridge well, both the service and sc models.

h&k usp's.

sig's line

glock too but i don't care for glocks in any other caliber than 9mm.

all the above will serve you well and for a long time, you just have to find the one that fits you the best.

.40S&W is jokingly called "short & weak".

I think any modern full-sized pistol is going to be able to handle tens of thousands of rounds of .40SW without any problem.

The .40 is called Short and Weak compared to it's parent the 10mm which is considered a magnum for the semi-autos.
