I'm looking for a high powered long range handgun, something like a .22. What do you guys reccomend?

remington XP100 is nice... Savage makes ( or at least they used to ) a line of pistols like the XP100, they are nice too.

Those Savage hand cannons were made by Anshutz. They are very hard to find these days. I just wish I bought one years ago.

When you say "high powered" I assume you do not mean 22 LR or a rimfire round. But the 22 WMR and 17 HMR are around and considerably more powerful than a regular 22LR.

So, I would look at Thompson Contenders which are offered in many calibers and go with the caliber you like the best. But I would probably go with the 223 myself. I would choose something like 30-30 win for deer hunting if that is something you are interested in.

What do you consider to be long range?

Also any of the .22 guns will shoot about the same for distance. The .22 cartridge is the limiting factor. Oh sure, you can find some long barrelled handguns but you only gain a few FPS per inch of length increase.

To shoot truly long range, such as 100 yards and more, you need to go to faster bullets with flatter trajectories to make life easy. And such handguns are extremely specialized. And they don't chamber a .22LR round.

I have barrels for my contender in both 222 Rem and 223/5.56 and either is just fine for the ranges I can shoot (up to about 250 yds). If you can stand the muzzle blast go for an Encore in 22-250 Ain't gonna get much more than that out of a 22.

The MOA Maximum is a great platform for a LR 22 center-fire and larger for that matter.
A 22BR or 22x47 Lapua is a sweet cartridge as is a fast twist 223 or 22-250.
All will take you to 1000 yards, and some even further.
I primarily use XP-100's and MOA's. And all of mine are set-up for shooting distance.

A 22 K-Hornet barrel is another nice option in a Contender, especially if by handgun you mean a 10"-12" barrell instead of a 14" handrifle. The K-Hornet chamber will handle regular 22 Hornet rounds. After you shoot them, you will have a ready supply of blown out K-Hornet cases to reload if you want a little more zing than the regular 22 Hornet. The K-Hornet is kinder on stretching the cases than a regular 22 Hornet too. There are faster and longer range 22 choices (223 for example), but in a pistol? The big step up is from 22LR to something that can shoot pointed boat tail bullets. After that, it comes down to how much blast you want for an incremental increase in range.
