Here is the link to what I'm looking at. My experience with 1911's is limited to the 1991A1 commander I carry and a Kimber a friend has. I'd like to think I have a pretty good understanding of what makes a good 1911, but I can't think of a time I've heard someone suggest a High Standard. Does anyone have some insight into High Standard's name or their 1911 reputation?

A friend of mine just bought one, and I'm hoping to buy one soon now.

The only thing wrong with it is the hold-open latch is a ltitle stiff (It's brand new) and it could use a throat job--the top end of the feed ramp is 1/8" to 3/16" or so away from the edge of the barrel.

Aside from that, this particular example slides smoother and has a better fit-and-finish than the RIA there.

Inspect before buying.

These are made by Armscor of the Philipines. You can get more info on 1911forum.com or m1911.org
They are well made guns with a cast frame.

I have one, bought it as a carry piece instead of my Kimber. In the last 3 months, I have put in excess of 500 rounds thru it, mainly handloads. In that time, just 1 failure and that was a 25 year old round that was stuck back in a box from my Colt 45acp days. It jammed. Once I cleared it, I was fine and the pistol has continued to roar.

It feeds on anything I shove at it. Do I expect it to give me 10K rounds? Truthfully, I doubt it. If I put another 2K thru it in the next 5 years, I would be suprised.

If your looking for a competition platform, buy a Colt or Kimber or another High Doller pistol.

If you want a low end pistol for plinking and carry, then the High Standard is great.

Either way, good luck.
