Hi folks, is there any data out there for single shots or strong actions capable of 48-50KPSI in this case? Im looking to get a 50AE done on a bolt action and there is a lot of margin between its normal 36,000 PSI and what a bolt can handle. I wont be running it full tilt, figured 50kpsi keeps things interesting and starline says its brass manages that easily. No one over react about the question thanks, its no different from a fella enquiring to do the same thing with a 45-70 on a ruger no1,,,. The action is strong enough to run higher, its a valid project, either the data is already there or it isnt. If its already out there would be great to know.

I don't know of any. All those I know of running that pressure level are doing it in the .500JRH. If I was doing this, I would just fill the case to the bottom of the bullet with H110.

Dunno of any loads reaching those pressures, thats a lot of thunder from a .50AE!

Good luck finding what you are looking for.

Stay safe.

44 magnums and such have “Thompson only” loads, but I’ve never seen anything like that for 50AE.

It‘ll be one heck of a fun rifle. I’m guessing your after higher velocity so range isn’t as limited?

Unless you're married to the 50AE idea, I think I would go with something rimmed in a bolt gun to make things simpler there and pick something with published load data to meet your goals. Freedom Arms has a 50 they created as I think they had issues with the rimless 50AE in their revolvers.

Out of curiosity, why the 50AE?

Her ya go,

This is uncharted territory for me, so I don't really know if recoil is going to make the bullets move around in the case or not.

The .500Wyoming Express is problematic because it's nearly impossible to find brass. Jack Huntington designed the .500JRH to work in the FA platform, as it is a bit too small for the .500Linebaugh's rim and most the FA's he's built in his cartridge are converted from .50AE, which only requires a new cylinder. FA essentially copied the JRH and used a belt instead of a rim. It is essentially the .500S&W cut to 1.4". Buffalo Bore has properly headstamped JRH brass. It ain't cheap but it's ready to go. Tim Sundles is the only one to order enough of it to get it made. Or you can always trim .500S&W to fit.

Jack does build leverguns in the JRH.

Out of a revolver, think 440's at 1350fps.

Those are published loads from Speer. He's looking for higher pressure data.

T/C Contenders are rated for "Ruger only" loads in the .45Colt but that's it. Any over-pressure ammo in .44Mag would not be applicable to the Contender.
