I just want to thank a fellow member here. I think it proves exactly how nice, and helpful people on this forum can be to total strangers. Long story short, I have been struggling with Nikon customer service to get a warranty issue taken care of. I wasn't getting straight answers, I wasn't getting my scope back, and I wasn't happy. I sort of hijacked a fellow member's post who was asking for advice on the same type of Nikon scope for his AR. Another member read my rant, and responded asking me to PM him, which I did. He is a Nikon Pro Staff, and offered to help make it right. I sent him all the correspondence I'd had with Nikon on Monday afternoon, and now, on Wednesday morning I'm sitting at my desk with a brand new replacement scope that arrived Next Day shipping. All I can say is how grateful I am to this Highroad member- bman940. He stepped in and offered a complete stranger help. And man, did he ever come through. What has been an annoying 3 month process, took him less than 2 days to solve. Bman940 and your friends at Nikon- THANK YOU. Sincerely, thank you.

That's very nice of BMAN940 to hook you up and take care of you, but perhaps he PM'ed you about this as opposed to an open message to you about it because he might have wanted to keep knowledge his professional affiliations to a minimum?

I originally joined this forum years ago because I used to work for a progun lobby group and a poster here requested information concerning a high profile case. I wrote that person a letter answering their questions and the promptly took the letter I had written to him and posted it in various gun related blogs and fora, including my name. I notice he was always very careful to eliminate his own personal information....hmmm

While there was nothing controversial in the letter, I did not appreciate being outed like that. It made my life a living hell. I could no longer accomplish the work I needed to accomplish on behalf of our RKBA, because now I had to answer the phone calls of every slack jawed yokel who wanted to go back to the moose lodge and brag about how he talked personally to that famous gun feller. I joined here and a number of other places just to keep an eye on what was happening regarding my issue and name.

Many times the only way we can accomplish good for out friends and allies is if no one knows who we are. Anonymity can go a long way when it comes to being able to accomplish work, as it gives you time to work and not get pestered by too many others.

I can no longer find the post on this site, as it may have been removed, but I can still find it elsewhere. The username is still active on this site.

I'm glad he took such good care of you, but he might not want everyone who needs "that Nikon feller" to know who he is

xcheck, I understand what you are saying but knowing who I do freelance work for is the least of my worries. I have Nikon Pro Staff in my signature on this forum. I found Wood. in a thread he and I posted on and offered to help him out, just trying to be a decent guy, no ulterior motives, I just figured maybe I could help him. I am happy to get Nikon optic question's, those I enjoy and while I don't do sales, maybe I can help members make a more informed buying decision and sometimes if I think the guy's might be interested I pass along promotions.
Wood, Thank you for the kind words, I'm glad I was able to help you out! Happy shooting!

I've had people help me out a lot and they requested to remain unmentioned in any posts. That person does great things for people and if it was revealed what he did and who he was he would never cease to hear from others looking for the same things. I very much appreciate what he did and I don't mention his name. So sometimes it is very much a good idea not to post a name unless the person is open about his situation anyway (like bman940 is). I've had people reveal the contents of private messages and I don't care for that at all. I wouldn't have made the message private if I hadn't wanted it that way. Some people just don't respect that. That's too bad really. They end up causing others to keep quiet about things when they could be helping out a great deal. Think about it. If you were a world class shooter teaching someone to shoot would you want it known by the whole forum world? You would be besieged with requests and then insults because you couldn't help the whole world. Some people just can't take no for an answer.

It is great to know there are people in positions at companies where they can fellow members here out. I've seen that more than once and it's always a good thing.

Guys just need to remember, they're called "private message" for a reason. In this case it worked out.

Now I can tell you, if you wanna get whacked, make something public that a mod sends you in a PM. They try to do that to be civil and not cause undue problems. When you start yacking to the world, all bets are off.

I appreciate what everyone is saying. I know there are plenty of moochers out there. What you failed to grasp was that I was making public postings about my problem, and in response, Bman made a public posting asking ME to PM him. I have not, nor would I ever, reveal the contents of any private messages we exchanged. I was simply trying to thank him, and illustrate the caliber of people who are members of this fine forum. The "Pay it forward re-loading" thread in the Handloading and Reloading section here is a perfect example. Hundreds of HR members helping each other out publicly, while not disclosing inappropriate information. Had I known that I would receive a public reprimand, as if I were a slow-witted child, I probably would have proceeded in a different manner.

Bman- thank you for the help. Those of you who don't like my public recognition of what a fine human being he is- thank you for your opinions. Though, perhaps in the future be a bit more careful in offering up opinions when not in possession most of the facts.

It's always nice to see someone helping out another person. Glad everything got resolved.
