Hillary to replace Rhenquist on the Supreme Court.

I read somewhere that for 2008 the Republicans plan to run Jeb Bush as their presidential candidate. Any truth to this speculation? I can't think of anyone else prominent enough to put forward after GW is gone.

Exactly Zundfolge

Hkmp5sd has Hillary's plan correct. She wants Bush to win in 2004, then she will run in 2008, and I believe will take the White House when she does.
One little detail needs to be factored. She's up for re-election in 2006. She will be up against a real Noo Yarker in the form of Ruddy and Noo Yark now knows Hillary and her schtik. Hillary will have trouble being re-elected.

She blows off 2004, gets beat in 2006, and so for 2 years she is completely away from the levers of power. Not a good situation. The lady has some really interesting decision to make here in the next few months.

Holy cow, speculation has really gotten out of hand here! Hillary isn't even a judge, let alone a federal judge, and she would never get nominated, let alone pass the senate. Save your worrying for something more realistic, like blue helmets in Mayberry or something.

You don't even have to have a law degree to serve on the supreme court.
Yep. Supreme Court Associate Justice and US Chief Procecutor at Nuremberg Robert Jackson only attended one year of law school and had no degree.

AZ libertarian,

I'd even go so far as to say that, after Rudy's marvelous performance post 9/11, and given his return to health, that another Rudy-Hillary match-up in a NY Senate race might yield a Republican NY Senator.

What happened to the small-government conservatives in the GOP? Where'd they go?

How can you tell Rudy from a liberal Democrat, other than by the color of his bunting?

(The same question holds true for Dubya, actually... :uhoh: )

Good Question. I'm not saying I'd be happy with a Senator Guiliani , just that I think NYers might favor him over Hillary. I certainly don't like my Sen. McCain, and can manage to tolerate my Sen. Kyl. I do, however very much like my representative, Jeff Flake.

I've said a number of times that the GOP has discounted the successes it can get with a small-government, libertarian position. The most recent example was when Newt lead the Republican Revolution of '94 with his 'Contract With America'--a position paper with a number of very libertarian principles. But after they reaped their short term successes, the R's fell to their baser instincts and we're spending again like crazy. In truth, the R's have a slightly better rhetoric than the D's, but in their actions, they are almost completely the same.

I don't think Jeb Bush has much chance getting elected president. He makes a decent governor, but now has too much baggage to run at the federal level. Ironically, back during the latter Clinton years, it was thought that Jeb would be the next Bush president and GWB would follow in his tracks.

Guess you should never say never...

man...

... y'all are still trying to figure out the "best choice". I got a better idea: let's go "absolute WORST choice". Instead of trying to get someone in who can lead the country back UP the slippery slope, let's get someone in who will take us all the way down, so we can start rebuilding: everyone should write in Hillary and Sharpton. The we can start a pool for what actually hits: a race war or a class war. Me, I'm betting race...

Ok... sorry... just getting disgusted with the system...
