History Channel's "Top Shot" on Sunday night

I have enjoyed the show, wish it would weigh less on the "reality house" but I understand the drama is what a lot of people like. Otherwise, I have really wondered how more of the people are not more well rounded in the course of what they shoot/throw. I guess because I am not a competition shooter of any kind, I have always dabbled with everything, shotguns, rifles, pistols, bows, throwing hatchets, knives, etc. Maybe its just the reality framing of the show, but it seemed like no one had ever shot a long bow before?

I taped the show and enjoyed watching last nights episode.

I would not have done well in the memory test targets or the plates on swinging pendulums.

I am surprised anyone hit anything at all with AR's and handguns sighted in for someone else. Other people's zero's are always way off when I shoot their guns.

At least they were shooting guns, not bows and arrows or tossing tomahawks. Maybe tomahawks will come later.

The best way to watch the show is to tape it, and fast forward through the house drama.

Honestly, the format of this show is starting to lose me. The actual shooting has started to drop to the background as the real "game" begins to emerge. The AR-15 concentration challenge was all about memory. The team with the best memory system won. Then, Blue team conspired to knock out historical rifle guy instead of sending him up against Tara. At least this week we got to meet the blue team. But, as next week's preview alluded to, the focus will be how does Blue handle the conspiracy, not the recreation of Hang 'Em High.

Yea - I thought it was funny that Jim almost beat that tool Ian. I hope the next challenge is Blake vs Ian and Blake roasts that turkey. Ian obviously has way more training than Jim did but he still almost got sent home. Those guys are so far up ian's butt that it's gross to watch. If that continues I won't watch it anymore.

I find the internal political dynamics interesting, but only as an aside. I'd like more shooting, but wouldn't leave the background struggle completely out of it.

They are being forced to play along with a "Team" dynamic, but in reality it's every man for himself and they know that.

I think it would be ironic if they came up with some obscure antique that only Jim could make run... if he were still there.

The Blues seem to be having more fun and the Reds think they are strange.

I wonder why they keep the teams separate on anything but the head to head challenge.
It would be fun to watch the other guys struggle through the selection and elimination phases, and informative to spy on their practice.
And more soap opera for the viewers.

I think the Host of the show is somewhat of a jack@$$, I really wish there was more shooting though, something else besides 10 shots each and thats it.....

I don't think Jim's half of the challenge was fair. Unless they had some form of mechanical interference that would disrupt or change the period of the individual pendulums which I couldn't spot, then physics won that one. With the same length pendulum, each one had the same cycle time, so the blue plate had to be behind the red plate through most of the challenge. That should have been accounted for and not allowed to happen.

I just watched Jim's challenge again in slow motion, and I am correct. From the beginning there was a blue plate riding directly behind a red plate until they were both hit with one shot. That should have been challenged by Jim - that is if he knew it at the time. He might have thought the plates were going in opposite directions and he was just unlucky to have the blue behind the red at that instant. If the producers are fair (and smart enough to realize what happened) we just might see Jim back next week.

Nonetheless, that was excellent shooting by Jim and far better than most everyone thought he would do based on past showings.

I keep trying to watch it...

I've got advanced reality TV poisoning from years of second-hand exposure. I've broken most of the house's addiction to it...

Hopefully we get another shooting show, Perhaps one that takes people who know NOTHING about firearms, and see how they improve within 24 hours, Make it a pure competition. No house drama.

I'll keep dvr-ing it to keep the ratings up, have to support it.

I plan on watching every episode since even the worst of it is still positive for the shooting community at large.

Contrary to so many Internet Commandos, I don't think I could have done as well on the memory test.

No,no,no, Jim, that's not how posting things on internet forums works! You're supposed to talk about how you were disappointed in all of their shooting ability, and that you could have easily beaten every single one of them with a Daisy Red Ryder BB gun, while blindfolded and riding a yak suffering from distemper.

Geeze.

;)
