History Channel's "Top Shot" on Sunday night

That was pretty funny when Brad leaned over and whispered "these are two of the worst poker players ever". I think Kelly got it just enough to not lose. I would love to play poker with either of them however.

Why did the young kid have one eye taped up on his safety glasses? Is that a dominant eye thing?

The show certainly had more shooting than the last episode. The poker play face-off was hilarious.

Denny's performance was disappointing, but in some ways almost predictable. Just like the first episode when Mike seem a little overconfident, things unraveled badly. However, Denny was lucky; he gets to shoot another day.

The way the show progressed, there was a theme that a good plan did help in the team challenge.

Better show this time.

I found it interesting that Denny commented that his problem with performing wasn't the weapon (that he was very familiar with), but the reoccurrence of an old bad habit and that the expert commented on the way that performance anxiety can throw the mental game off badly.

How can sixteen men (er, fifteen) be locked up in a house for a month and NOT play poker at night? Unbelievable! Moreover, how can any MAN not know how to play poker?

If you ask me, it's too bad a good shooter gets eliminated just because he doesn't know what a spade flush is.

Sad. Very sad.

The Poker stuff was funny. Though the episode did show a cool example of an core concept. That even hardened veterans are susceptible to the effects of stress on accuracy.

I thought the right person was out. He seems to choke more than the others with pressure. He looks VERY surprised at the first shot like is was an accident (from his face) and never got on his game. I did like they all were men about it and did not whine and blame others or the gun.

Furthermore, how can any MAN not know how to play poker?
Well....
I know how to play poker, as did my father, but my grandfather (on my mother's side) didn't.
He was raised in a very fundamentalist conservative Christian family and playing cards was totally forbidden, and gambling was considered the Devil's work.
"Roll'n dice" was forbidden too.
But Grandpa was a MAN in every sense of the word, it's just that he was raised up to believe that such gaming would eventually send one to hell.

I did enjoy last night's episode.

top shot, my aunt bessie's aching bunions

I've watched the show from the beginning. After the first couple of shows the cry babies and jerks started to show their colors. They got rid of one of the worst ones but still have one on the blue team.Whoever should win the game,in my opinion,is not a top shot.Give me a break, the last shooting was at 25FEET.I just came in from my backyard pistol range and tried shooting my ruger vaquero at 25 feet and got a one holer at that distance. If they want to be honest about deciding the top shot they should eliminate shooters that shoot the worst at each stage.Sorry for the rant but some of those guys are real jokes at shooting.

Why didn't they present Lead Dispenser as a SASS Champion. Why the corny "Speed Shooting Champion" and why not introduce him with his shooting alias? I recognized him from his thumbing technique even before they showed his face on camera. Also, Adam continued to reveal himself as a total jerk. The way things are being edited and presented, he'll probably end up winning or at least be in the "finals."

He will, they want us to HATE him. It is calculated that way to get controversy and viewership up. Get emotionally vested in the show and you'll watch.

Personally, I think the methodology of whoever does worst at one stage (even though they rocked all the others), is a bad way to play. Everyone will have their weaknesses, if the game is about the most balanced all around shooter, then you need to take in an overall approach to who leaves the team. Yeah so and so sucked this week but he pulled us out of the fire so many times, we will cut him some slack.

If I were on the show, first person I would try to get rid of is Mr Drama. If he is really like that day in/day out, he is poison to any "team" mentality and needs to be gone, IMO.

I am looking forward to next week though. Those trick shots look fun.

BTW, who here would not love to be in that range they did the team challenge at? I wold love that, got nothing around here like that to shoot at.

I had no idea that being Top Shot also included the ability to play poker. Next week they'll have an elimination in which the person who can change the oil on a pickup truck the fastest will get to stay. They'll have a gun holstered the whole time of course, this is a shooting competition after all. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

The producers had the various hands of poker on a poster beside the target so not knowing how to play poker is not an excuse for how Andre and Kelly performed. It simply added an element of stress to the competition.

This "voting someone off the island" shtick doesn't appeal to me. I watch the show because it's the only shooting show I can get. But I'd prefer to watch a straight shooting event without all the personality crap. If I could watch IPDA on TV, I'd much prefer it.

When Andre took that first shot in the team competition (which they replayed once or twice), he looked like someone who had never fired a gun before. Flinch is an understatement.

That said, he did hit every card he aimed for during the elimination challenge, it's sad he was out because he didn't understand how to play poker. Still though, 2 of spades?

They had a cheat sheet up, it was pretty straightforward even if you don't play. Andre knew to go for the royal flush the first time around, yet couldn't figure it out for the second try? Under no understanding (or misunderstanding) of poker would it have made sense to shoot for the 2 of spades. He mentally choked, and being able to keep it together mentally is an aspect of being a "top shot".

more total crap. Shouldn't of watched it but i did.

How does a man, who proclaims himself as an expert with a certain weapon, then use that weapon and SUCK.... and not put himself on the chopping block.

He let the team down, HE should have been in the shoot off. The hate they have for Kelly is unjustifiable from what has been displayed on TV and is coming across as they simply don't like the "Kid". The funny thing is i think he is a better all around shooter than anyone else on the red team right now. he adapts pretty damn well.

Cowboy didn't "Cowboy Up" and looked like a tool doing it.

Take that stupid hat off too... Urban cowboy maybe, Giddy up.

If IDPA (or IPSC) can be done in such a way that it makes exciting TV, then yeah, I agree 100%.

But getting those sports more exposure on TV and making them exciting to watch for the average viewer is going to be a challenge. Shoot-offs (think slalom skiing or snowcross) are one way to do it, (See: 3 Gun Nation), and good camera work is another, which Top Shot has in abundance.

The best way to do IPSC/IDPA (IMO) is to have real-time scoring for the targets (the shooter couldn't see it while he/she was in the stage, obviously) and cameras mounted on each target that show how the shooter approaches each target differently, and then combine that with the overlaid camera technology they use for the downhill ski races in the Winter Olympics telecasts.

And even with all of that, the personalities are going to be what drives the coverage, same as it is in any other sport. Every last one of them is popular not because of the sport itself, but because of (to borrow a phrase from Jim McKay), "The human drama of athletic competition".

Andre didn't flinch, he had a negligent discharge. His finger was on the trigger when he thumbed the hammer back. That's why he looked surprised, he was.

If I was locked in that house, me and Adam would have to fight. All that "rat fink" nonsense got old quick!

My thoughts exactly! Who did he lie to to get on there? His resume is exhibition shooter - right? Or some sort of mounted shooting rodeo star. Can anyone verify this? I'm sorry but if you can put on a mounted shooting exhibition in front of a crowd. You should have no problem hitting some targets 12' in front of your face.

These guys need to shut up and shoot, but I suspect that part of the deal for being on the show in the first place is to clown it up for the cameras with "He's nothing more than a Rat Fink" and "He's lower than low" and "He'd never make it in the Marines" comments. Sad but true in these days of so-called "Reality" TV.

The so-called "Marine" was being a backstabbing idiot in the first place; the kid was just being honest. IMO. That marine has no integrity. I hate reality TV drama. I watch these on hulu.com so I can skip to the shooting bits.
