I am trying to decide which gun I should buy now. Whichever I buy will be added to the rotation of homeprotection and truck carry and maybe some CCW.

I've got the opportunity to buy a H&K USPC in .40S&W for about $500 in a face to face deal. Gun is basically brand new having less than 50 rounds fired.

New Glock 19 would also run about $500 OTD.

I've owned a Glock 23 and sold it at one time to buy a HK USPC in .40S&W and was really happy with the HK, but sold it in a moment of weakness.

So, should I buy the HK? OR is it not worth the money?

Or should I just buy the Glock?

I'd say go for the H&K but then again I'm partial to my own USP 40C. Still, $500 is a fantastic deal even for a used USP so you may not want to let it slip you by.

Well, I have both a USP-40 Compact and an earlier Glock 19. The HK sees a lot of range and carry time while my Glock sees a lot of dust being collected. Glocks are alright but the HK is a lot better design and far more versatile IMHO.

Another vote for the H&K. $500 is a good price for one that's only had 50 rounds or so thru it.

However, gotta wonder why one would sell a like new $700 gun for $500. Better check it out thoroughly. If you can put 100 rounds or so thru it before buying even better.

I vote for the HK. I've got both the Glock and HK and I seem to find the latter better shooting for your purpose. The HK is quite easier to handle and gets more range time than my Glock. The presence of a visible safety is good specially for your purpose of an all-around gun. Glocks are good guns but the HK is a different matter.

I remember long ago when a friend of mine wanted to buy an "excess" gun from me. I told him that I will let go of the Glock.:p

Get the USP. $500 is a steal for an H&K.

But like Werewolf said, ask the owner if you can put a few rounds through it first to make sure everything works. Knowing the quality and reliability of USP though, it'll probably work 110%

USPc>Glock

Though I like Glocks, HK makes a vastly superior product IMVVHO.

And if you REALLY want a quality gun.....look at a SIG. ;)

Ya, what he said.

No question, USP.

That price is low for the HK, and high for the Glock.

Cocked n' locked, decocked, or decocked n' locked, your choice.

I'd get the HK USP C .40

I was faced with almost the same choice at the last gun show. I needed a 9mm to replace one that I traded and the final choice was between a Glock 19 and HK USPC 9mm.

I decided on the USP because of the manual safety and the ability to have a couple of different carry modes, such as cocked n locked or DA/SA. Although I carried a Glock for years, I was never completely comfortable carrying it in a fanny pack. Here in Florida fanny pack carry is usually the most comfortable in the summer.

However, the G19 will cost a bit less to shoot since it is a 9mm.

Wow, not a vote for "Glock Perfection" yet. For me there's no comparison, I'll take the USP over the Glock any day. As a matter of fact I prefer the Sig P series just slightly over the USP even though I own both and shoot them equally well.

USPc Nuff said I love both of mine .... though the USPc in 45 is a bit like calling a cadillac a compact (for carry purposes only it is still my fav shooter).

oh and 5hunny is a super deal.

Unless you need a light on your gun, get the HK.

I like Glocks and I like HKs but it seems like a good opportunity to fill that HK-shaped void in your heart :)

I knew I should get the HK, just needed a little reassurance.

Picked it up today and already put 40 rounds through it.

Shoots just like I remember, boringly accurate.

The only thing that suprised me was the very light single action pull, it sure isn't like my S&W 4506.:D

the big plus is you get to keep all your fingers cause they don't blow up like the POS glocks do ...
(seen 5 kbooms so don't say that they don't...)

Go with the Glock--the original point and click device.

Glock has the edge in simplicity. I don't want to be fumbling with a manual safety when fractions of seconds could mean the difference between life and death.

The Glock has a consistant trigger pull compared to the HK carried in a DA/SA manner. Why learn 2 completely different trigger pulls for 1 weapon?

The Glock, like the 1911, has a lower bore axis enabling quicker follow-up shots.

The Glock finish, compared to HKs I've seen, wears much better--an important consideration for a carry piece.

Good luck with your decision!

Curare, GunNut already got the HK, see the post above :)

All being said I would have gone with the G19 because of caliber preference. :)
