I asked about the Para P14-45 and thanks to all for the honest (will not be getting the Para) responses. I am looking to the USP 45 now but have seen some threads about poor customer service from HK. Thoughts??? I have gotten EXCELLENT service form S&W.

HK has not been known for their customer service to the civilian sector, however since opening their us location I have heard things have been better. However, I have heard of much less customer service issues with HK overall than with most other brands of firearms...which is as it should be since you are paying quite a bit. I am an HK man myself, but SIG may be another company to look at as they seem to be on par with HK in both cost and quality.

i asked for springs, every time I get them in a week, for FREE. I got 3 already.

as far as major work, I never have to send any of 4 of my HK's back.
it's HK, you should know ;)
my 1911 the other hand, they BETTER have excellent CS! damn jamomatics.

Also check out a Sig P220.
I sent my Hk USP Compact to Hk to have the LEM trigger installed. Their service was good and it didn't take long - about 10 day turn around. I'm sorry I changed to the LEM trigger :banghead: before I bought a Sig P229 with the DAK trigger. Sigs DAK is much better. (sorry I got off-topic)

I have an USP 40 and very happy with it. If I were looking for a DA 45 I would go Sig P220. If it was a 1911, I would look at Kimber's Warrior. I have the Sig and the Kimber and love both. If double stack is what you want, look at the XD.

I am an HK fan and wouldn't hesitate to buy HK products again in the future. In fact, I'm already saving my pennies to buy a HK45 when they finally hit the PRK! I have only had to call HK c/s a couple of times & they were very helpful & prompt in responding to my needs.

I wouldn't really worry about it, HK will stand behind their products.

You will more than likely never even need the customer service department anyways.

Steve

I've had three dealings with HKUSA in the last few years. Each time they performed the service/modification as promised and returned the weapon promptly. They have always been professional, polite, and reasonable to deal with.

Regardless, I wouldn't worry about it a whole lot. Of my 6 HK pistols, NONE has ever required service (all of the above was optional). These aren't safe queens either - I shoot about 2k a month worth of pistol ammo, not including a couple USPSA matchs and a local club match. Best guess, my USP45 has better than 25,000 rounds thru it and I haven't so much as replaced a mag spring yet. In fact, I've yet to suffer a single non-ammo related stoppage or failure of any kind with any of my HK's. That's going back to 1999.

Not saying you should get the Para (and actually if I was going to get a double stack "1911" I'd look at an STI), but I do find it funny that you decided not to when the response's in your thread were more positive then negitive (granted there were only a total of 9 responses)

I'd do more research on it if I were you, check out this 1911 site, there is a Para section on it, it will at the very least give you more info about the gun and Para's quality

As for the USP, they are nice, solidly built (had one in 9mm, sold it) but IMHO over priced. If you're looking at that price range, I'd also check out Sig's, and for less money, the FNP in 45 and the XD or wait for the soon to hit the shelves M&P. The best thing you can really do is decide what features you really "need" and then try as many in your hand as you can and see what feels best to you.
