HK VP9...Interesting...

I noticed my ppq to be most different, probably because of the superior trigger mechanism. Although takedown is exactly the same. My ruger looks very similar as well. We can agree to disagree, no prob. I just want a vp9

If they introduce a compact version I will be interested.

Edit: Nevermind, I just read that it is 1.32 inches wide.

Sootch00 says it has a better trigger than a ppq. This I have to see. If this trigger is as good as he says I will absolutely love this gun. This is a good thing that's going on with these striker fired handguns. No more subpar triggers for stock striker handguns in a foreseeable future

sort of. He says the break on the PPQ is better and crisper, and in the video is noticeably shorter. The takeup on the PPQ is greater. Which is his criterion for stating that the VP-9 has a better trigger. The takeup IMO is a non-issue... the takeup doesn't stack and you have to have takeup on this type of trigger anyway.

The PPQ has a pretty frickin' awesome striker trigger. If the HK is anywhere close it'll be a winner, IMO.

I may have to eat some crow and buy one. My only complaint so far is that the slide stop looks very cheaply made.

Yes the take up on the PPQ is a total non issue. I don't know why it is even brought up other than an alleged sales pitch advantage for the VP9. If I wanted a trigger to have no take up I would use cocked and locked anyway.

The VP9 looks like a great new entry in the market but absolutely no reason for me to need once since I already have my PPQ.

I would like to see Hickock45 do a review on both the PPQ and VP9 together like he has done with other similar pistols.

I was thinking the same thing about the slide stops appearance on the left side of the gun. Kind of reminds me of a Taurus G2 slide stop, but the other side looks traditional HK. No big deal and not gonna stop me from buying one :D

I was thinking, "I hope there's an option to remove the slide lock on the right side". To me, it is okay on the DA/SA HK, but on the VP9, it looks odd on the flat surface of the frame. I wouldn't need the ambi slide lock anyway.

Thanks for recovering my questions...

Long slide release on one side but not the other?

Does it have a decocker DA/SA? or just DOA or is SAO like the PPQ?

You forget that HK made the first polymer pistol years before Glock. You also forget HK made striker fired pistols before Glock.

But you seem to forget that HK's first polymer pistol had like an 18 lb trigger and went nowhere despite its 18 round magazine when most of the "Wonder 9's" of there era were at 15 rounds.

I wouldn't need the ambi slide lock anyway
I don't get the ambi slide lock or ambi/reversible mag releases period. When I shoot my 1911s left handed I find the trigger finger actually works the slide release and magazine release better than my thumb does shooting right handed. However, ambi safeties I consider near mandatory, but the modern trend is no external safeties so its moot with most new pistol designs.

My impression is that the VP9 will be a huge product for HK, and they will probably sell a lot of them. The early reviews are saying the trigger is excellent, it's a soft shooter and runs pretty flat. Ergonomically it borrows heavily from the P30 which I think has the best ergos of any handgun I've ever seen. I like that they went with a full length rail- almost any light or laser you can find should fit. Lastly I'm thrilled that it uses a P30 mag (since I already have twelve of them!).

I have mine pre-ordered already. It was $599 shipped with two mags and factory Meprolight tritium sights. Without night sights the cost would have been five and a half IIRC. Not all that much more than a Glock but probably much better made. At least the HK lifetime warranty should engender a bit more confidence than 1 year Glock warranty.;)

LOL. He talks about the PPQ trigger having more takeup but a cleaner and crisper break. I will take the cleaner and crisper break any day as the take up is a TOTAL non issue. When he did his review about the PPQ he raved about the PPQ and it's trigger and trigger take up was never mentioned at that time. He also said the PPQ was a super soft shooter.

In any case all these new choices like the VP9 and the SIG P320 are a very good thing for potential buyers. If someone can not find a striker fired pistol they like in 2014 most likely they never will. Hopefully the Walther CCP will be available soon also.

Where did you order it from, I would order one right now if possible.

I got in on one of the group buys at HKPro Forums (remember, I'm an HK fanboy! :p ). I think Mike at Cross Creek Guns is still taking pre-orders at that price. There's an SKU for the same deal but with three mags for another twenty five bucks. But it takes the same mags as the P30 and I have a dozen of 'em already.:D

I'm not expecting much from the CCP. Not a real Walther, made by Umarex like the PK380. Probably has the same pot metal slide. Ever put the safety on with a PK380? Trigger still pulls, hammer still comes back and drops, gun still goes "click", just doesn't fire. Walther should be ashamed putting their name on crap like that.

Hey I had a sig mosquito that did that. Probably made by Umarex as well

I like how often people repeat the pk380 slide is made of pot metal material.

It shows who know what they are talking about. The PK380 slide is steel.
