I've got a chance to do some night hog hunting, but Im having a tough choice deciding which gun to take.
1) AR15 carbine .223 w/ Aimpoint ML2 Redot and Surefire Tac light (on front of gun).
2) Remington 700LTR .308 w/ Aimpoint ML2 Redot OR Leupold 4-14x40 Scope, No light.

I've heard with the right bullet, the AR15 can definately take down hogs.
Also, how important is it to really have an easily accessible light on the weapon?
If I don't take the AR, I'll probably just have a 3 or 4 D-Cell maglight (I don't want to buy another light source).

Whats the best .223 round for hogs (bullet weight, type, ect).

Forget the .223.

I've done okay on coyotes with a flashlight held against the forearm of my rifle. I use a Streamlight SL 20; haven't needed any shield against back-spatter of light in the scope.

Odds are the range will be pretty short, I guess, so the red dot oughta do okay. I'd do a little bit of practice, first, though...

If you were hunting javelina, might be different. Use the '08.
