Hog Hunting: How would I go about doing it?

Does anyone have any good contacts for going hog hunting? I would like to do it but don't really know where to start. I have been hunting deer and turkey all my life and would like to try something else. What should be included in a hog hunt and what would a reasonable price be?

I have only hunted on my own land so not really too sure where to start!

There's a place here in NC (Alexander County) that offers trophy hog hunts for a reasonable price (actually it's high compared to the prices I saw in a thread on here not long ago) and I'm going to go in February. Only 2 hours away for me and no hidden fees once you get there. I called and asked. My first hog hunt I hope is going to be sweet! If interested I'll tell you their name.

Since you are in Ill. I would say check out craigslist in Michigan. There are probably some outfitters there that run a decent hunt.

why would you pay for a hog hunt when any farmer in eastern NC would beg you to come and take care of the damn feral swine??

Birdmang, I don't know of too many wild hogs in Illinois. Its got them, as does Indiana and Ohio, I just don't know where offhand. Your best bet is to contact the local USDA Wildlife Services office.

I just looked and found out that there are feral hogs in Wisconsin, some even in Forest county where I have a lot of land. I haven't seen any up there but we border the Nicolet/Chequemegon National Forest, so there are a lot of places for them to hide.

I have made numerous trips into the NF lands surrounding ours and I always had a pistol in my pocket and a rifle on my back. I don't know the legality of carrying in a National Forest, but these animals being an invasive and unwanted species, does anyone know the legality of hunting them in a National Forest?

I hunt in a National Forest from time to time. But you need to find out the regulations for that particular forest and go from there.

Legality depends on the state. Normally, you can shoot them any time you want on private land. Its a bit different if they are on public land, and you will usually (in most states I've hunted in) be restricted to hunting them during other firearms seasons.

As far as carrying in the National Forest - I believe that is largely controlled by state carry laws.

Hog hunting is alot of fun. I wouldn't shoot them broad side. I always go behind the ears with my 270 and they fall on the spot. All of my hog huting was in TX when I used to live there. good eats!

Already mentioned, but laws differ by state. I am in Kansas. I inquired about hog hunting. Answer below.

Feral hogs are regulated the KS Livestock Commissioner, George Teagarden through the KS Animal Health Dept. It is illegal to sport hunt them but landowners may register with the Livestock Commissioner to kill them on their own land or designated someone else to.
