Has anyone ever tried the Hogue Super Speed holster? It looks like a hell of a holster. I like how it uses magnets instead of kydex to keep the gun in place. Before I drop that kind of money I would like to here what some people that actually bought it think about it's functionality.

great speed draw holster

I have been using one since they came out for IPSC competition shooting, I have used it for a 1911, Beretta and every Glock under the sun. You can't beat it for the $. The magnets will hold any steel slide sloid even some of the stainless ones are magnetic enough to use it.

That is exactly the kind of information I am looking for. I am really glad to hear that it works for many differant kinds of guns.

After repeated use, I'd expect the slide to become magnetized, which would be a very bad thing as it'll collect metal shavings and the like.

not really

rare earth magnets are what it uses and they do not tend to transfer the magnetic flux like an electro magnet might. The do not really touch the slide anyway, they are recessed somewhat to prevent marring the finish. I'll put it this way, my Glock 21 has been in it over extended periods and it still won't stick to the plate in my forehead.
Besides, if one cleans like one should metal shavings aren't around long enough to collect, if they are that prevelant, get rid of the HighPoint 9mm & get one that isn't made of potmetal, it isn't magnetic anyway since its made of melted tin cans & the like.:D

The Hogue is one of only two kinds of race holsters I've seen drop a gun at a match (the other is the Safariland 012 btw). It seems to barely hold the gun even when fully locked.

Get a CR Speed.

Ditto Monstor

Look at what the best use, Ghost, CR Speed, Safari, Limcat... You wont see hogue up there

A few of our guys tried them several years ago when they were all the rage. I haven't seen one on the line since then.

The best, looking or shooting

:D I may not copy the best cause I'm not aspiring to beat the best, I'm past the double nickle age and just shoot for the fun of it. Besides, "It's not how good you shoot, but how good you look shooting" isn't it.

lead, copper, aluminum and brass are not ferrous (do not contain iron and as such do not react to magnets) metals . . . . so even if the slide gets magnetized, where would the (ferrous) metal bits come from?

I got one when they first came out for a 1911. It was okay for standing starts like shooting steel with no movement at all but felt real loose if moving. It's pretty easy to hit the locking lever when drawing and give yourself a speed wedgie in the process. I even bought the revolver insert for it and tried it with an N frame S&W but in the end just went back to Safariland holsters for everything I shoot. The buddy I gave it too almost dropped his glock at a match when he went to open a door and the holster didn't hold the gun. I would never recommend this holster to anyone but that is just my $.02. YMMV.
