Hollow Points vs Armor Penetrating in the news

Deltaboy,

I'm quite sure Ms Allen didn't intend to cross over into New Jersey that day, either.

Yeah, she did.

She was headed to Atlantic City, N.J., in the early-morning hours to prepare for her son’s birthday party, which was being held three days later.

Hard to go to Atlantic City without being in NJ. Allen intended to go there. She intended to take her gun. Apparently, she was planning on staying a while, too.

As for the ammo and reporting, at least one of the two reporters got the story right. No doubt, reporters do screw up, but to a certain extent, they are at the mercy of what they are told.

Hmmm.

I was in Philly when this story broke, and the local news sources were reporting she unintentionally crossed into Jersey and the traffic stop happened after she made an illegal turn to go back across the river.

Interesting.

Well, just look at where she was stopped, Atlantic County, which is on the east side of the state and 20 miles or so from Philly. That isn't a wrong turn across the river kind of mistake. She could have gone a long way in Goucester or Camden Counties that both border Philly without ever making it to Atlantic County, but that is where she was stopped.

It is interesting to note that she stated she bought the hollowpoint ammo because it was cheaper, $8 cheaper per box.

Allen said the hollow-point bullets were purchased at the suggestion of a gun dealer, who pointed out they were roughly $8 cheaper per box than other ammunition.

My hollowpoint ammo certainly isn't $8 cheaper than other pistol ammo I have. However, we do know from her statement then, that it was indeed hollowpoint ammo.

At the risk of sounding like a "Jersey-Hater", I have only two experiences with New Jersey. One, being tailgated by cop after cop as I was forced to drive through a portion of the state. Having heard of the infamous corruption, I remained about 1 MPH under the limit so they had no excuse to flip on the lights. Secondly, every car with New Jersey plates i encounter on my drive to and from work (a major metropolitan and industrial area with traffic from all over the country) has a damn fool for a driver. I want nothing to do with that level of corruption or incompetence. I have written off cities, in this case it is an entire state. Will not go back, period. And this is just one more example.
