A straight drop Kydex holster is within a tenth of a second of the most advanced race holster. Look to Uncle Mikes and Fobus for these, spend the $15 they will cost and spend the rest of a race holster cost on practice ammo. You will come out ahead this way.
I've been using a Safariland 002 Cup challange 6" for about 10 years now. It has held everything from a 4"686 to a bull-barreled 6" open gun and even a Taurus snubby one time. Works with 625's and 627's as well. I have never dropped a gun out of it and I think I spent 65 bucks on it originally. Bought one for my 14 year old to hold his 4" open revolver off of Ebay for 45 bucks a few months ago.
