I'm looking for a holster that will fit both a S&W Model 36 and a Model 442. I like the compactness of the Blackhawk Speed Classic. I like the ability to use the Bianchi Model III Cyclone as a cross draw holster. I would like a holster that stays close to the body. Retention is my main concern. Maximum concealment is not an issue. When I want that, I'll use a pock holster.

Any comments or suggestions?

Should be any 'J' frame holster. Both of 'em being such things.
Haven't bought holsters of any flavour for eons myself. Make my own. Tandy's has everything you need including pattern books. One of the books has a pattern for short barreled revolvers.

DeSantis Speed Scabbard without the strap. Ive carried model 60s, a 640, and a 649 in one since the 1980s as a plainclothes LEO and since Ive retired. I have one for every gun I usually carry and have used these holsters for about 30 years. Never lost a gun even without the strap.

This is a very old S&W brand leather spring clip I have used for about 50 years.

It fits any J-Frame ever made, hammer, or hammerless.

They don't make then anymore, but they should.

I've got a Galco that works well with any J frame. I think it's the Speed Master or something like that.
Just about any quality J frame holster that does not depend on a strap over the hammer for retention should work for both.
Bianchi Lightening is another good one that comes to mind.
Simply Rugged Silver Dollar also.

Kydex, polymer ....

The Blackhawk SERPA & G Code Kydex belt holsters are impressive.
The SERPA isn't that expensive & you can quickly convert the height, cant/angle or use a paddle style. It's secure(good retention) & easy to clean/maintain. I own a Sportster Blackhawk SERPA, the non retention format for my M&P Shield 9x19mm. It's fine but if you desire or need the extra security, get the regular CQC SERPA.
The G Code series isn't as modular as the Blackhawk SERPA holsters but they are robust & come in different styles/colors.
