So, I recently got a Uberti (via Taylors) 1862 pocket police and I love this little pistol already! I´ve carried it around most of the past 4 days I´ve been on family vacation in the mountains. I´m eager to smooth it up as best I can, and if I´m not satisfied with my results I will send it to one of many reputable revolver tuners.

I plan on carrying this out and about in the yard, garden, and the woods. It´s an excellent size C&B revolver for loafing carry, and I´ve been toying around with holster ideas. FWIW, I should probably mention that I make holsters. I´m not great, but I´m not shabby either. I´ve thought about a crossdraw holster, and probably will make one for it eventually no matter what. Honestly, what I´ve been leaning toward is a IWB holster for the thing. It fits very discretely IWB. While I do not intend to use it as a ¨for real" out in town SD conceal carry, I do like the idea of carrying it concealed IWB around the woods.

I have no desire for a period correct flap holster. I´m also not a fan of the slimline holsters. My first C&B holster I made was a slimline for my first C&B revolver, a 1851 fantasy gun in .44. So basically I ask, how do you carry your pocket pistols when you carry them? What type/style of holster, and where on the body?

I also bought an 1862 Police by Uberti, but from Dixie, with the 5.5-inch barrel. I'm thinking to carry mine as a backup to a modern firearm for a few weeks, so it can get carry time, but I don't have to change my carry pistol or location (.357 Ruger LCR in AIWB).

I was thinking of a vertical shoulder holster, built of lightweight leather where possible, like the Galco -- that I think is called the Classic Lite? -- possibly with the behind-the neck strap that anchors on the opposite belt, ala the Ken Null SMZ. I'm still thinking about it, but a shoulder holster allows for the long barrel, and the slimness of the 1862 PP could allow it to hide under a buttoned shirt and to totally disappear under even a light, short jacket.

I'll be very interested to hear what you decide on!

Regards,
Dirty Bob

My daughter likes to carry the little 49 Pocket model around while we're out shooting. I make leather products too, so I made up this little number for it. It's very traditional though, and just rides on the hip. You hardly notice this little thing hanging on your belt.

I love your work ShotgunDave. I´m still torn. I live in a rather warm climate and rarely wear a jacket outside of December to early March, so I´m pretty committed to a belt holster. Dave did I mention I lover your work!

5whiskey, thank you very much for the kindly words. It's very much appreciated!

Dave, you're quite welcome. I don't do much tooling these days but I want to get back into it. I had a lot to do today before coming to work tonight, but I did spend a few minutes to come up with an IWB design. I'm gonna do that first. Then probably make a belt holster similar to yours, probably not quite as fancy though. I dunno I may break out the swivel knife and punches who knows.

Yes Dell's makes a great holster. When you wet-form it to the gun, per their directions, you can't imagine a more perfect fit. Like Daisy Duke in her cut-off shorts. I think a flapper is the only way to go, but that's just me.

I did the wet-form on the shoulder holster but not the flap holster. I did the wet-form with one of my Navy's and both of my Police models fit good in it too.
I also have two more of their flap holsters for my 1849 and another Navy. Hmmm, I must like the Pocket models????

Would you be insulted if I took some inspiration from your work? I like that inner border, for lack of better words.

Haven't had this one out of the safe in many years and can't remember the last time I shot it, probably early 90's. My Uberti 1849 Pocket .31. Can't remember where the holster came from. No name is marked, but it fits fine. I'm sure Sam Houston would be good with it.

Cross draw California.....every BP Revolver I have whether Pocket or Army. If I want it closer to the body, I just do a sewn on belt loop, a little tighter than normal and increase the width of the loop as much as possible.

Similar to the first cross draw I ever made but I didn't care for it. I did sew on a belt loop but I don't like the draw angle I gave it. It was a full size .44 open top colt, so the gun was a bit big for that rig too. I made a drop western style cross draw and I love that holster. I may have to revisit sewing a loop on the back if I make a cross draw for this pocket police though. It's small enough it would work out much better I think. Thanks for the input that's exactly what I was looking for.

His questions are quite simple, man.
How do you carry your pocket C&B revolver?
What holster do you carry your pocket C&B revolver in?
What style is it?
Where on your body?

Thank you, that is exactly what I asked. Sure I could have done without the backstory, how I feel about my new revolver, etc... but hey I like the thing let me brag on it.

To follow up, I finished up an IWB holster for it. It conceals as easy as a Kahr or Shield IWB, if not a touch better. I´ll post pics later if anyone is interested. Not my best work at all but I rushed it. Not so bad I´m ashamed of it either.

Please post it. I feel like the forum as a whole could use a thread dedicated to people showing off what they've made.
