We have a weak dollar and China attempting to corner the market on every raw material available. Sad? Yes. It's also inevitable.

Check out what the buck has done against the €uro over the past year.

It sucks, but if you don't have enough ammo, pony up and buy another 1K now.
I doubt it will be any cheaper this time next month.

On top of that, I checked out the local wal-mart this morning...
They are out of Federal bulk pack .22. I didn't ask but it wouldn't suprise me if they were OUT and not just out.
The rumor about PA wal-marts being out of WWB 9mm ammo also seems to have some credibility. I checked a couple different wal-marts and both guys at the sporting goods counters (I BS with them when I buy stuff there and both are shooters) told me the same thing about their warehouse being out of it.
I haven't seen any WWB 9mm ammo in over three weeks.

I'm also informed that Federal ammo prices will be increasing again at the begining of April.

IMO, if you want ammo you had better buy some now.
Everyone should try to get at least an ammo can full for every caliber they shoot.
There is nothing wrong with more but that's a realistic goal that everyone should be able to reach.

Eh. We need to get the Russians and Chinese pissed off at each other again... kill two birds with one stone...

No point in doing that - then the Russians would need all their ammo production capability and it would get even more expensive.

am I crazy for stocking up? I've spent over 2 thousand dollars in three months on ammo....I have 500 to 2000 rounds for every caliber I shoot...and I shoot a lot different calibers....

Two years ago I was buying ammo that I shoot as the price started rising noticeably. I view the situation today as no different. I just continue to buy when I have funds available.

Well, I'm glad that I don't have a huge varied amount of calibers to cover (just .22LR, 9mm, .30-30, 7.62x54, and 12 Gauge), and that I have reloading equipment.

You need to think about the advantages of simplification.

Really, you only need one caliber, .22 LR, for repetitive training and small game hunting, if it comes to that, two for defensive handguns (one, "mouse," for a vest-pocket/hide-out piece, one a "normal" caliber for CCW, etc.), one intermediate 5 to 6mm-ish (if not 7.62x39) for your CQB rifle/s, and something approaching 8mm for longer reach applications, including large game hunting, again, if the Piggly Wiggly has decided to close for good.

There is an argument, like Avenger29 makes, for reducing your caliber footprint. Of course, my take with handguns has been to hold onto what I have, and find innovative ways to ensure that I could make use of cheap ammunition as I run into it -- extra barrels here, conversion kits there, revolver cylinder customizations elsewhere, so that I can double calibers up on single platforms wherever possible.

With rifles, it isn't always so easy, but I have a sufficient amount set aside so that I could get through a crink in the supply line for a while, and platforms that are fairly standard, with one glaring (but I ain't ditching it) exception.

if we would get out of the 'war' and suck up the short run punch of producing crap ourselves then ammo prices wouldnt be going up and the dollar wouldnt be going down.

I just try to buy lots when it's cheap. I bought 3 cases of 8mm at $55 a case, several cases and sardine cans of 7.62x54R at between 8 and 12 cents a round and I still have about 1200 rounds of .308 left over in SA and Port battle packs that I bought at around $35 each.

I've debated getting into 5.45, but I don't have a rifle to shoot it and I already have two 5.56 AK's.

thats a good excuse i use on my wife for my ammo buying! the price just keeps going up im trying to hedge against high prices in a few months! lol

i just purchased 2k rounds of Wolf 5.45 while it is still cheap around 160 a case with shipping

At last count, I shoot 23 different calibers and I actually reload for 18 of those.....and at my age, I may never have to buy ammo again....stocking up seems like a good idea to me, before the prices go higher and as long as I can afford it, and before the Democrats try to outlaw it....I shop online and only buy the cheapest deals I can find. I also stocked up on primers for reloading....

Eh. We need to get the Russians and Chinese pissed off at each other again... kill two birds with one stone...

Yes. That is true.

I bought 4400 rounds of federal bulk pack at my local walmart earlier in the week along with 200 practice loads for my 1200, all for around $150. 5 months ago i could get remington thunderbolts (which work great in my .22s), 500 round brick for 11 bucks. Its at 18 dollars now. Now im going to throwdown more money for mosin ammo.

The way i see it, its just going to get worse to the point where the entire sport of shooting isn't worth it anymore, and the community will die until we have a Russian, Eastern European, or Chinese conflict that will open the floodgates of ammunition into the US once again. That being said, we need to stop the propaganda of guns being evil so we can actually have those ammunition and weapons shipped to the US.

If it ever reaches that point, where its costs more than its worth, ill sell all my guns excluding my .22s and get into another sport.

Last month I used my free shipping promotion with my buyers club renewal to order another 1000 rds of Wolf Military Classic 124 gr HP, for $175!:D This on top of the (800) 154 gr soft points that I have. I timed that just right, I knew what was coming.

Last week, I ordered another 1000 Ranier 155's to load in my 40, they were on sale at Midway for $84.99, down from $99.99, I was all over that. Last year I bought (3000) 155 grain Ranier's from Midway, for $225 with free shipping, that was a good move.:D

Bought another brick of Federal 22's at wally world for $11.97/550 rds, yesterday, I now have 2000 on hand.

I'm actually thinking about ordering a 3rd case of 7.62x39, before the price goes up again, possibly over $250/case.:uhoh::eek:

SG is high priced ammo anyways, check out aimsurplus for your ammo needs there are plenty of dealers on the internet right now you can have 7.62x39 for WAY cheaper than 209$ a case!!!!!

Right. Not all 7.62x39 is created equal. The Wolf MC HP 124 grain has what's called the 8m3 HP bullet in it, which is something beyond run of the mill put-a-hole-in-paper range caca.

If you find this Russian Ulyanovsk ammo, it is great stuff. My son shot a hog this week and it blew up the inside. It works and is cheap ammo. What if its human tissue?

This is the exit wound.

The only copper jacket fragment taken from the tissue around the wound.

The Wolf MC 124 gr. HP is the equivalent to the stuff you took that hog with, that is, at least the projectile is the same. Its fragmentation is incredible, which is why the exit wound on that hog is so terrible.

And it's only $219 per K at Ammunition to Go. :(

I think I have about 1500 rounds of that ulyanovsk. . . :)

Ammoman has wolf and golden tiger for $199 and $189 delivered. I think that's the best price out there right now. I would probably go with the golden tiger, save ten bucks and it's slightly cleaner ammo (supposedly).

I thought so too until I looked just now. Seems like a couple weeks ago $170 was the best price, but now it's creeped up to just about $200.
