Just a word of caution about Buds. Although they generally have the best prices they don't always have the items in stock. On top of that, when they do have the item it can be a long and boring wait for them to ship. After waiting 3 weeks on my last order, that was supposedly in stock, I cancelled. I don't know if I was unlucky but just use some caution.

Unless you have an FFL or some other way for them to ship it to you directly, you may have to pay "transfer" charges. My local gunstore would charge $130 for the privilege. Maybe it is a California thing. Just read all the fine print before jumping into it.

I'm guessing that you should find a different FFL to do your transfers. Put your zipcode in here. The going rate for transfers in Colorado is $15-$25. Looks like CA is a little higher, but not $130. Yikes!!

Unless you have some pretty solid support for that allegation, you could be opening up yourself (and THR) for some legal grief.

I've ordered two handguns from Bud's, both were in stock when they said they were (one wasn't originally but the notified me when it came in). It took them 3 days to receive the order, process and ship. Overall, par for the course from a large online retailer.

They do have good prices. I've been reading up on them lately and, by and large, the majority of the opinion is that they are pretty good. Of course there have been some problems, some unhappy customers, some mix-ups. They have something, supposedly in stock, that I want quite badly and shipped $100 less than the cheapest price I can find locally. Of course, I don't have an FFL, but my local favorite shop will do it for between $15-25 (depends on whether it's a clerk or the owner who handles the transfer). Still haven't decided though.

BTW, that is a very tempting price on that M&P. If I hadn't already bought mine, who knows.

I've bought seveal guns from Bud's with no problems. My dealer charges $5 for the transfer. And from what he has told me about Bud's is, they buy enough to get distributor prices, which are less than dealer prices. Usually they sell at normal dealer cost on most. I have looked through his catalogs and can verify that. I usually just have him order it in for me, and pay the $50 markup to give him business. But he can't always get what I want.

Somehow I am pretty sure he's just kidding. I certainly didn't take it as anything other than a comment on how good their prices are.

I've been tempted to buy from Bud's, but the $25 handling fee and $9 shipping charge, + the $25-$40 it would cost to recieve it adds up to about an extra $60-$75. That's usually about $30-$40 more than I'd pay for the same gun locally. Now add to that the fact that I can walk out of a gunstore anywhere in my state with a new gun in 5 minutes, and I really can't justify paying extra money to wait around 2 weeks for a gun.

Now, buying from Impact can be a different story.

Who are you dealing with? I have found nearly every metro area dealer charges ~$30. Not unreasonable, but if I can have it done for half that, it is a big savings that is worth a drive when transferring 4 or 6 guns at a time.

I'm sure there are a few M&P reviews on this forum. Some on Glocktalk. But it really caught on over in the semi-auto forum at www.smith-wessonforum.com. Lots of reports over there. Most rate the gun as pretty good to exceptional. A few have had difficulties with it (early guns apparently had problems with slidestops and also with frame pins walking out). As far as I know these have been corrected. I bought a 9mm M&P a couple of months ago, but I haven't made it to the range yet.

No. Both the SW99 and Walther P99 are still available. However, the SW99 is no longer offered in DA/SA mode. The current rendition is the 990L which supposedly has a DAO trigger similar in weight to a Glock. Current P99 offerings are restricted to the QA trigger system, but I suspect renewed imports of the DA/SA isn't too far off.

Actually, the P99 DA/SA (AS as Walther calls it) is available in fullsize and compact models.
