625-7, 45LC, 255g LFP at 870fps. Rural environment, large house with possible 60' shots (max), leather furniture in likely position for BG to use as cover. My secondaries are 38SPL with 200g LSWC-K. Penetration is king & queen for me.

We are talking revolvers here so I vote for either a 44 special or a 45 colt with a plinking or range load or a good factory load of the same variety if I can find one. Haven't looked for one lately since I've been loading my own for a while now.

Of the 2 revolvers I own, a Taurus 85 and a Taurus Tracker 44mag, I would choose the 44 for home defense. Although I would use 44 special rather than 44mag.

.45 LC. The best of all worlds. Large, heavy slug. Avoids the deafening concussion and muzzle blast of any Magnum, and more potent than the .38 or .44 Spl.

Nasty: Tried to send you a message...guess I brain-farted:

You will probably find that the older lab will teach the younger lab how to do the alert duty in your house...my "old boy" (108 lb Chocolate lab...now departed) certainly taught the current dog very well...soon hope to get a pup for her to teach....

...To keep the HD revolver ball rolling....took the M60 and the M686 to the range this past weekend......my 3" 686+ has to be the closest to the "perfect revolver" I have ever had. Of course, the M60 is its close neighbor!!
