No offense but when I think Home Defense, I think of a MAX 10-15 yrd shot.

Same here. When I start shooting my new shotgun, I'm going to be looking to keep it on a piece of typing paper at 20-30 feet.

No 4 shot is used all the time to kill deer. And it's usually easier to find than no 2 shot.

Remington Low Recoil 00 8 pellet, here. Of course, I have no one else in my house to worry about. Haven't got a chance to pattern it yet, but I bought 3 boxes; 2 to test with and 1 to keep in the tube if I like it. I would have loved to pick up more brands, but that was all my local store had. That should be changed when my order from MidwayUSA arrives next Monday and I can figure out what I really like.

I can only offer opinion here but I keep 00 buck in my HD gun. Only other shotshells I have in the house are slugs and some #6 for bushy tails. I use Remington 00 because they are readily available, pattern well, and cycle reliably (my 870 didn't like a box of Feds I got for some reason)
