ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- A resident turned the tables on three men who burst into an Orange County home Wednesday night. He shot and killed one of the robbers and another suspect was stabbed, but got away along with the third home invader.
Six room mates living in the house on Muscatello Street in Orange County told deputies that three men broke in and one immediately fired one round to let their victims know they meant business.
"I was in my spa and I heard this muffled cap sound and I knew it couldn't be fireworks," said Bob Whalen, a neighbor.
Investigators said it's unclear what happened next. One occupant was reportedly hiding in a closet. When one of the bad guys tried to open the door, the occupant fired his gun through the door. The suspect was shot and killed.
Deputies said a second intruder was stabbed, but he ran away before deputies arrived on scene.
"We'd be going out on a limb claiming that it was as it appears to be at this point, until further investigation is made and homicide is able to speak to everybody individually to put together a picture of what we have," said Cmdr. Tom Cockriel of the Orange County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies said they did not believe drugs played a role in the home invasion.
