Home Security Alarm Systems

Well, not every installer is a high school drop out. My installer was a licensed electrician, which is required for all installers with my company, and did a very good job.

Like I said, I'm sure there are some good companies out there. Perhaps my advice should have been to make sure you check out the folks who will install your system if you choose that route. It's like car salesman, there are good ones but the bad ones keep screwing it up for the good, honest folks.

seems like a good ideal to have door/windows monitored at night, and turn on the motion detector if you are away,

plus, if you have a large sign that says "protected by brinks home security" of something simmilar in front of your house and a sticker on all the doors and windows, most "intelligent" bad guys wouldnt mess with you.

but then again, a good dog and a shotgun never hurt either.

something else, somebody said something about a motion sensor that can be programed for weight, so dogs or cats wouldnt set it off, what about larger dogs like german shepards, labs ect.
(like the two bullmastifs i own, each dog tips the scales at about 200 lbs)

That was me, icebones. We have ours set to 40 or so lbs because we have three ferocious tub-O-lard cats. I figure I'm pretty safe unless I get robbed by a bunch of lightweight midgets. :D

I remember the installer saying something about my sensors being able to detect size as well.

But, for people with dogs approaching and even exceeding human weights and sizes, I don't think the motion sensors will work. At least until they have cameras that can analyze visual differences and discriminate.

Another thing you can do with pets is get a narrow range motion detector or line of sight type (or even a transmitter/reciever type like at the bottom of garage doors)and set it at ~4 ft off the ground average BG walking through would set it off, but pets walk right under it. BG could crawl under it if they knew about it, but, you can't have everything.
