I was on my way out the door to get a new (insert current new favorite gotta have it toy) from the gunstore when the Ol' lady chimes in with "what, don't you have about twelve or fifteen thousand dollars worth of guns you don't shoot already" ! I thought B!!!!!!!, don't you have fifty pairs of shoes you don't wear !!!!!!! but didn't say it (learned my lesson before).

So, after driving to the 'store and fuming all the way it dawned on me "SHE'S RIGHT !" :banghead: Daggum woman ! :p Right then I thought I REALLY needed a secure place to keep everything, you know, just in case........

Got myself a new RSC that day, and I have never regretted making that purchase ! ;)

Some other options for quick access lock boxes:

Pistol lock box w/ mechanical simplex lock and holstered gun put into your hand: http://www.titangunvault.com/

Long gun quick access box that fits between studs, electronic lock w/ low batt sensor, tamper sensor, and key override, and holsters for handguns too: http://www.gunlocker.com/SafeSite_content.html

I like the simplex lock on the titan, and that the gun is in a holster, easily grabbed, for the positions I would want to put it in, not out in the open for anyone to see, I would access it in the dark, or under a bed or something, so I would want to do it by feel, and not have to reach in and grab the gun off the floor of the lock box like some other models.

I have a simplex style lock box in my vehicle and have found it to be very reliable and easy to use.

I like the rifle locker because I can keep a home defense shotgun or something in there and an extra handgun or something, and compared to other models, like those from V-line (which is a decent product), the rifle locker has actual bolts, although only 1/2" it has several bolts to get through the door. And if mounted properly in a strategic location, can be out of sight, hard to remove, and yet provide quick access to a hd long gun, and possibly sidearm if you choose. While I like mechanical locks better, this keypad does light up at night, and has a key override in the event it ever fails, or there's an EMP or something that knocks out electronics.

I like the idea of keeping a quick access defense gun in some sort of locked but quick access status. I like the idea of other guns being in a more substantial RSC/Safe, in a harder to get to location, rather than out in the open. Out in the open means more easily seen, and more easily worked on. I'd say put the real big RSC/safe somewhere that's hard to access, the harder it is to install it, the harder it is to break into it/remove it. The lower end you go on the safe, the more important it is to have layers...

If gone for an extended period of time, you can always remove the hd guns from the quick access boxes, and put them in the big RSC/Safe, but day to day, it gives you quick access. I also believe in carrying, so if I'm dressed, I probably already have a holster on the belt, not that hard to throw something in there. So unless I'm gonna go to bed or something, then something is probably on my person, but otherwise, I like access to something quickly w/out worrying about a kid getting to it, or if I left that particular piece behind, someone else.

I wouldn't mind getting a pocket gun and pocket holster for lounging clothes, but I haven't found one in stock anywhere as of yet.

My .02

Karz
