Assembly bill A06187 looks very promising for New Yorkers.

http://www.assembly.state.ny.us/leg/?bn=A06187

Establishes a license for a pistol or revolver shall be issued to have and
carry concealed, without regard to employment or place of employment and
without judicial discretion on whether proper cause exists for the issuance
thereof; requires the police authority in the locality where an application is
made for a license to carry, possess, repair and dispose of firearms to conduct
a search of the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS).

I hope everyone will support this bill and help NYS get on par with other "shell issue" states.

Dominus,

Do you have some sort of ideas for plan of action to help make this happen? Who are the politicians that folks need to focus on and which ones are likely to be road blocks?

I just emailed my former student, who just so happens to be France Delmonte's office manager, about this bill. I asked him what are the chances this will pass? I will post his response

wnycollector,

Excellent! Any chance he can tell you where the best points to apply pressure are on this?

Would it be best to concede NYC to still being "may issue" to get the rest of the state as "shall issue" and then work to change NYC at a later date?

wnycollector, Thanks for the info. Where abouts in WNY are ya? I'm in Clarence Center, and have been putting off getting a CCW because of how difficult it is in Erie county. Who should I talk to, or barage with calls and letters to get this passed? Just trying to help anyone who's ever tried to get a CCW. The cost, and time line is ridiculous.

No response as of yet, but I emailed his home/private email and not is official work email. Francine is one of the co-sponsers of the bill. I'm HOPING that I can actually find out the "real" chance of this happening!

I'm in Niagara Falls. I can understand why you are hesitant to jump though erie counties hoops for a RESTRICTED permit! In Niagara County my wife and I recieved our full carry permits in less then 60 days.

The bills in place with committee and "referred to codes", I believe that means they are checking the legality of the bill. I'm hoping calls, emails and letters from the people to their local representatives will force the politicians hands for support and passage of this bill. NY is loaded with anti-gun people so the rep's will need to hear from us for any chance of this passing.

I really think getting as many women representatives on board with this bill as a womens rights and family protection bill will go a big way in get it passed.

I recall reading thats how Texas got done with Dr. Suzanna Gratia-Hupp at the for-front. After all who is going to tell a woman she can't defend herself and her family.

The Senate now has the same bill listed under S 3478.

Please keep the calls, emails up to the rep's showing that these bills are wanted by the people.

Thank you.

OVERWHELMING grass roots support is the only distant chance a bill like this has. The cause seems to be too obscure and quite. It needs to be picked up by an organization that can get the word out to the contingency.

What I just received from Jane Corwin Assemblywoman from the 142 District:

>Assemblywoman Corwin,
>
> I'm writing to inform you of a Bill going through the Assembly. That Bill is A06187, a Bill which would make NY a "Shall Issue" state in terms of pistol permits. Currently in Erie county, the wait for a pistol permit application is 12-18 months according to the Pistol Permit office located in the Rath building. The cost of an application is well over $110, when you factor in finger printing. Not only is this ridiculous, but nearly all of the CCW permits issued in Erie County are "Restricted" Permits, allowing the holder to transport the pistol only to and from the gun range. The cost to employ all of the workers in the Pistol Permit office is unnecessary, and by passing this bill, the office would be able to downsize greatly, while making the wait to be approved significantly shorter. You and I both know criminals don't follow the law, and most gun related violence is committed with stolen and illegal firearms anyways, so allow the law abiding citizens to protect themselves, and their families. This Bill leaves the discretion of issue up to the NICS, the existing background check authority used for the sale of all firearms. There are many states that already have "Shall Issue" laws, such as Florida, Texas, Utah, Indiana, etc. All of these states have lower gun related incident rates than NY. So when Bill A06187 comes up for vote, please help make NY a safer place to live and Vote for Bill A06187.

Dear Mr. XXXXXXX:

Thank you for your recent letter regarding proposed bills in the New York State Assembly to combat gun violence. I appreciate your initiative in contacting my office.

As your newly elected Assemblywoman, I feel an obligation to express to you, a member of my constituency, my feelings on gun rights for law abiding citizens. I firmly believe that any law abiding citizen in the United States has the right to own a firearm. Moreover, I believe that lawmakers throughout the state and country should actively seek to honor one’s rights laid out in the US constitution.

Added restrictions to gun laws do not address the problem of violent criminals who illegally posses and use firearms. Combating violence involves a variety of law enforcement tactics that have had proven success throughout New York State. Such programs as IMPACT, a law enforcement program dedicated to providing police departments the technical ability to pin-point crime patterns and consistency; give our agencies ample ability to combat crime. Instead of stripping rights from law abiding gun owners, lawmakers should be supporting these types of programs, as they have proven successful in fighting crime.

You can county on my adamant opposition to any bill that restricts law-abiding gun owners the ability to exercise their constitutional right to own and carry firearms.

Again, thank you for your correspondence and please feel free to contact my office in the future regarding this or any other state matter.

Sincerely,

Jane L. Corwin

NYS Assemblywoman

142^nd District

What we need is greater organization on the part of the pro gun NY people. I see here we have a handful, then when I go to ARfcom there are some (who are all pretty depressed, it seems, on 2A law matters), some more on TFL... but nobody knows what the others are doing. What NY needs is something like Calguns.net.
