Do the Hornady 55gr Soft Points expand well? Accurate to what distance? Anyone use them in Mini 14 or AR15?

They are Very accurate for me in my AR

I have shot at 100yds and 200yds, and are MORE accurate than I am:D

As far as expansion, cant answer that... but the Soft Point should help expansion I would assume..

per Hornady's Website

Features:

Streamlined design for ultra flat trajectories.
Match grade jacket design provides maximum accuracy at all ranges.
Explosive expansion, even at low velocities.

You may also look at the V-Max... just as accurate
Polymer Tip

The polymer tip increases the ballistic coefficient and also initiates dramatic expansion upon impact – even at velocities as low as 1600 fps.

I have various VMax in various calibers, but they are much more expensive. I'm feeding a bolt, Mini, and AR, so trying to get the cost down without giving up accuracing first, expansion second.

I have and still use them for plinking, paper target, and piggies :D
Great accuracy out to 100 yards for me and a few friends, our range is only 100 yards so I can not testify for any farther.
The recovered projectiles in hogs had excellent expansion for the size and construction. Weight retention depends on what it hit while making mr hog take a permanent nap. Ar 15 and min 14.

I use them in my 18in AR with both H335 and Varget. I use the H335 in all my practice and range fun loads and I use Varget in my hunting loads. The Hornady 55gr SP is excellent on coyotes and bobcats but a little much on fox if saving hides.

Here are the results of a test I did using water jugs and the Hornady 55gr SP w/c. They were shot out of my Mini 14. I have had one AR that shot them 4+ MOA and another that shoots them just over 1 MOA. They certainly aren't a match grade bullet that almost every gun shoots well, but aren't inherently inaccurate either.
