Just called my supplier about a quote for .224 55gr FMJs as I need 6-10K per month for a client. Said Hornady isn't taking any more orders for .224 55gr FMJ this year as they've sold out their production capacity for the rest of the year.

Just a heads up. :what:

I hope Armscor can pick up the slack.
Really hard to believe!
I don't think this is a bluff. It's from a company that only deals with OEM ammunition manufacturers like me.

Damn Freak thanks for the heads up. I guess I'll have to start shooting the tracers when the weather permits.

That doesn't make much sense. They may not be taking orders at the moment but you have to think that it isn't going to take another 6 months to fill the rest of their orders and start selling again.

Freak didn't say that Hornady stopped making bullets.

He said that Hornady stopped taking new orders. It will take the rest of the year to fill current orders.

Hornady fmj will still be available, but only for those OEM mfr that have outstanding orders with them. Which leaves us and our local ammo suppliers like Freakshow totally out in the cold.

This client is using them to test fatigue, wear, viable life of BCGs for their AR15 carriers. There is no simulation here, it has to simply be done old school. They put an upper on a machine gun lower and do mag dumps all day long. They are a prominent AR manufacturer, so wasting barrels, etc is just part of the process for R&D.

That's about how many they are shooting per month because that's all they can get right now. I will be supplying said client 10K 9mm 147gr rounds per month as well. All in all this client will possibly be buying between 20,000-40,000 rounds of various ammunition from me per month. If you want to make big money you think big orders and big quantities. Client came to be asking about 5,000 rounds. Sure, no problem. Few hours later said 10,000 rounds monthly starting ASAP. I'll get the stuff ordered and start loading. Calls back again and says OK we'll take 10K now, 20K when that first 10K ships and then we'll probably take about 20K monthly after that. Just put us in the production schedule, call us when it's ready to ship and we'll pay over the phone. Consider it done. That's how we roll.

Congrats Freakshow. Looks like you will overcome this small hurdle to continue success. Plenty of suppliers to pick up the slack for blasting bullets.

Now if I had the money for one of those small hydraulic swaging machines I can make my own .224 bullets in a hurry using .22 rimfire cases. Materials would run about $25 for 4400 bullets. They wouldn't be as accurate as normal jacketed bullets but for my client's use, they'd be perfect.
