I recently read about the new 30-30 SST rounds by Hornady for lever actions. The article said that the .444 Marlin needed to be fired from a new lever action to notice a ballistics improvement due to Marlin changing the twist ratio and grooving in the late 90's. The test round for the 30-30 were fired though a Winchester Model 94 AE. My Question is this, would these new SST rounds improve the accuracy of my Marlin 336?

It was made in 1978 and uses the old micro groove boring. I do not know the twist ratio, which would basically decide the improvement in accuracy. Did Marlin change the twist ration in the 336 in the late 90's too? Has anyone fired these rounds through a late model Marlin 336? Any info would be nice.

I could just buy the rounds and reload them to find out, and I will if I need to, but I thought I would check here first. Thanks all!

no one has told me aobut needing newer firearms to see improvement but i also have a marlin 336 made in 1978 and have not found the new hornady rounds yet and walmart does not carry them so i ended up with a box of 170 grain power points
