I have never hunted hogs before but will have the opportunity to do a chartered hunt this summer in central Florida. I have a 20" 450 Bushmaster AR and factory Hornady 250 grain FTX ammo but am concerned I may want a tougher bullet. Any experienced folks here to advocate for this bullet or should I take out a 2nd mortgage and try to buy some Barnes copper bullets for this hunt? I just don't want something that's going to fragment inside a meat animal.

It will work but they are not the toughest bullets and might fragment. That said they are still going to kill'em dead. The Barnes 275 TSX in 450 Bushmaster is a tank of a bullet, but they are really expensive. You might see if you can find some of the Federal 450 Bushmaster loaded with a 300 gr Power Shock bullet. It should be tougher than the 250gr FTX and not as expensive of many of the all copper bullets.

Florida in summer. I hope you get one, but if you do, work FAST or you’ll have rotten meat.

I love that 250 bullet, but the big males can have a pretty thick shield. As indicated above I would look for a box of interlocks or bonded soft points just in case.
