I just started reloading for 9mm, successfully so far, and I have a question.
Can anyone tell me why Hornady makes 9mm HAP bullets in both 121gr. and 125gr. Is there more to it than just a 4 gr. difference?

The HAP is supposed to be their practice bullet. It's the old TAP without the laser cuts.

Why 121gr in stead of 124 or 125gr is beyond me. Probably something to do with metric conversion. 124gr is 8grams. 121 is about 7.9grams.

Call Hornady. :D

I haven't seen the 121gr. but I know that the 125 gr. is .356"

This is a 38 Super bullet diameter, not a 9mm Parabellum bullet, which is normally .355" in jacketed bullets. I know since i mistakenly bought some years ago. According to Hornady tech., you can successfully load and shoot these in a 9mm Para cartridge as long as you don't load to max for the round.

YMMV.

What am I missing with these HAP bullets? Why would anyone want to load these instead of FMJ? I see they are a slightly bit cheaper than XTP's but since they aren't designed for expansion why use a HP instead of FMJ? Is there something that using a hollow point does that an FMJ won't?
