Has anyone run into Hornady brass that's too damn short? I've always had some 357 hornady brass left over from factory ammo I bought before I reloaded. It was .030 shorter than all other brass. I just bagged it and set it aside for maybe a special load that would require shorter brass for a long bullet. Well I bought some once fired brass thru a classified ad and it had a few pieces of hornady in it. I'll be damned if it wasn't all .030 short. Anyone else find this to be odd ?

Almost all current Hornady handgun brass is shorter than normal, especially their .45 Colt brass. Just save it and load it all together, since it's good brass. There are reasons it's short, but the general explanation is their bullets made for leveraction rifles with the polymer tip, which has to be seated deeper to make up for the longer bullet.

Hope this helps.

That makes some sense, I do have it all lumped in one bag . I'll have to save it for a "special purpose". It just seemed odd, just hornady

What he said.

Anything originally loaded with the Hornady FTX rubber tip spitzer bullet uses shorter brass.

Because the Hornady FTX spear-point bullet is too long to work an most guns if loaded in standard length brass.

Except for crimping, the length in a rimmed case is not nearly as important as in other case types.
